The tests will surprise you every time. You'll probably feel like you did poorly on the test, but when you get it back see that you did fine. That was my experience. Nowhere near the teacher that Nimmrichter is, and you can see that she does not respect him. Be prepared to talk in German to classmates. Overall he was alright.

He is very interesting, but tends to ramble on about random information that he knows or about his life. Class is supposed to be for people who have never had German, but if that is the case it will be VERY DIFFICULT. I had 4 yrs and still had to study! He is sometimes hard to understand and he makes you teach yourself.

one of the worst teachers I've ever had. very rude and critical of people who don't understand what's going on.

Dr. Hopkins is very good at german and knows what he is talking about. However, he speaks in german all the time and it is hard to understand him if you are not completely fluent. Not a good teacher for average german students. goes off on a lot of tangents about his life. Tests are average.

Having 4 years of German in hs, this class was a breeze for me. My classmates, however, struggled due to his lack of teaching ability. He has vast knowledge of the language, and many good experiences to share, but they were not always relevent to class. I wish he didn't stray off topic and explained the basics more for the sake of my classmates

He treats college students like adults, meaning you get out of something what you put into it. You are expected to participate in class. He is somewhat helpful, especially in class. Criticism: He relates German words and phrases to other languages to often and time is wasted on outdated German and information not useful in everyday situations.

He is an interesting man. take this class if you like hearing crazy(in a good way) stories. But honestly, if you need a W component and have nothing else to take, sign up for this class. He's very leniant when it comes to assignments. You wouldn't believe it unless you took a class with him. It's almost too good to be true.

Dr. Hopkins seems to be an intelligent and extremely knowledgeable professor. But he is also unbelievably lazy when it comes to his classes and has NO passion or interest, it seems, in teaching. He doesn't seem to prepare anything for class, he just rambles on, spouting off random facts and moving from topic to topic in the most incoherent way.

Very nice guy, reasonable grader. Says that its -2% to final grade every time you miss but just talk to him and make an effort to show up occasionally. Hard to understand sometimes. Didn't show up until 30mins into the final.

He was the most helpful and probably the most interesting prof's I've had this entire time in Millersville. He does go off on tangents about his life.... but it's still very interesting nonetheless. I would definitely recommend his German Lit Translated class. It was great.

Professor Hopkins is great! He is very passionate about what he teaches, and he loves to share his experiences with the class. If you want to learn loads about the German culture, take his class. (A solid understanding of the German language is a must -otherwise, his class would be completely meaningless.)

This class nearly killed my love of German. I can't say I really learned anything in this class except how to call a concept I already know by another name. Lectures mostly consist of his life stories, not much real learning.

The ABSOLUTE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. He makes you feel incompetent if you don't get an answer right, so freakin BORING, missed 10 days out of the semester & then made you teach the material to yourself. Reads the book word for word (that's how he "teaches"). Don't take him...save yourself!!!!!!

I took Hopkins because he was the only professor teaching intro to German. I had no prior knowledge of this language and this intro class is very difficult. My class is actually teaching itself a chapter right now while he's on vacation. He also bullies students, I'm pretty sure he's retiring soon, it's about time.

Herr Hopkins is a great person, although I wonder about how great of a professor he is. He stands in front of the class and asks a lot of questions that no one knows the answers to - even having read the book. His questions are oftentimes quite vague, and several answers can apply. Otherwise he's a great guy. Very smart.

He's a pleasant sorta' guy and he likes to go off into stories. If you don't work outside the class, you won't make it. There's a lot of vocabulary to learn, but it is doable if you take the time. The tests are easy if you've been studying the vocabulary with the sections--ya' just have to study.

I had Hopkins for intro. to german and german lit. in translation. This guy is close to retirement, and class just kind of drags on with what he talks about. Every now and then he will go off on a tangent. Overall I do not feel like I learned much of anything, but both were easy classes and I heard some interesting stories!
