Comment:
Leslie is a kind hearted woman. She's always apologizing about having her tests scheduled for weeks we had a lot of work in other classes. She would also ask us if the tests were fair or not. They are fair, just make sure you know ALL of the music examples and everything else she tells you to know. A little bit picky in her marking but a kind prof.

Passionate and eloquent. She is indeed a tough marker, but this course is an upper liberal, and thus has a lower threshold for spelling and grammar mistakes. As for the tests, all pertinent texts for study are outlined in the syllabus. They are also tough, and require very precise choice of words when describing a musical term for example.

Professor Hall is passionate prof. The course itself is diverse, so you are sure to enjoy it! She doesn't post anything on blackboard so class attendance is mandatory. Her marking scheme is very hard to understand, as you get marks for nothing and lose marks for nothing. If you have a keen interest in music around the world, you will do fine!

Comment:
Leslie Hall unfortunately fails to provide students with a comfortable learning environment. She is a self-proclaimed hard marker in order to 'combat grade inflation'. Instruction is dodgy and generally unclear, when questions arise, they are usually swept under the rug or the student questioning is made to feel (for a lack of better words) stupid

Comment:
Dr. Hall is extremely passionate about music. However, she's very impersonal and is very difficult to talk to about any class work. She doesn't use blackboard therefore attendance is required. Her midterms are somewhat challenging plus she's very picky with her answers, especially when it comes to the essay. Overall, she's not wonderful

Pretty interesting course. But weird marking. I got 80% on a test I never studied for and 70% on the final tests which I put hours of effort into. Weird marker and does not give credit or gives false credit where it is due

She is very passionate about teaching music. She does require attendance to class as the tests reflect material done in class. I think that's great since it is a music class so learning and listening in class is important. Overall she is a great teacher and will help you with tests and the essay if you ask for her assistance.

Very hard marker. She never posts notes on blackboard, so make sure you attend every single class. Additionally, her class is kind of boring. I don't recommend you to take her class.

Very passionate about music. It is mandatory that you attend her lectures as the tests refer to lecture material. Be prepared to take a lot of notes!! Also be prepared to spend quality of time listening to the musical pieces in order to identify them for the tests.

Really, really, bad. Tests are pretty hard and most of the material on it is from the things she lectures about, and not from the textbook. This means that you absolutely HAVE to go to her classes if you want to do well. She also responds to student questions very rudley sometimes. Overall recommendation - don't take the class.

Her outlines for tests were not helpful. I studied extremely hard for the final test and found that about 75% of the test was on topics that I didn't study, because they were not mentioned anywhere in the outline. She also doesn't know how to work the classroom computer, spent class time tryin figure it out, and i spent $500 on this course?

Extremely hard marker! Her test outlines are completely useless because everything you study doesn't even end up being on the test. She doesn't like to spend time helping students who have no music background and expects everyone to know it. Most of the time you have no idea what shes talking about because she doesn't explain anything.

SHe LOVEs music and very passionate. Her lecture is OK but sometime she ignored students' feeling and comment on their opinions. Better to keep a quiet mouth in her class. Though the course was very interesting and I have learnt alot on classical music. She is a though marker. Almost cry when I see my mark on the essay. Test is ok if you study.

one thing is for sure, this prof loves music. other than that, does not care about students, does not care about teaching music to students, actually heard her tell a student they have an "inability".. extremely rude, extremely unhelpful when ask a basic question, looks like she always has something better to do, ah well. her class was way too easy

ONE OF THE WORST. Her midterms and exams are unfair, she creates 20 mark questions on something she only spent 5 minutes on in lecture. The textbook is useless. She marks essays unfairly-I got all good comments including it was one of the best written papers and I only got a C+..thanks professor Hall!!
