Tests are pretty easy, but the papers are KILLER. I had never gotten anything bellow and A on a paper before and I got a C,all because I misunderstood what she wanted attached to the paper! And I didn't go into enough detail on 1 section so instead of giving me partial credit for the section, she gave me a 0 for it! I would have had an A otherwise

There are 2 papers that aren't that hard, but follows a strict fornat. 1 midterm and a final. There are weekly pop quizzes so make sure u do the readings. Lots of guest speakers that really introduce u to the social work field. Newell seems hard at first, but as the semester goes by she lightens up.

Papers can be a killer if you don't follow directions. Follow strict APA format. Tests aren't too hard. Attendence is part of grade. Do the reading, there will be pop quizes. Lectures are staight out of the book. Interesting quest speakers.

definitely my hardest class, and worst grade. She doesn't respond to your emails asking for help, and is a really tough grader. Make sure you do the reading THOROUGHLY. the only good thing is that she is flexible with extensions for project due dates.

This was my introduction to social work. I loved professor Newell she was very helpful make sure you go to her office hours. I didn't do so well on the paper but studied my ass off and got a 93% on the final which brought me up to a B-. Take her she's very good will learn a lot about social work. Professor Newell really enjoys her job you can tell

She is so helpful. Go see her during office hours, but I will agree the papers are a killer. I had 6 different people proofread my paper and I only got a C+, I had someone who specialized in English proofread the second and finally got an A. The tests are not to bad, but the pop quizzes stunk and she will give you pop quizzes. Best advice read.

Great Professor. I really enjoyed her class. Read the chapters ahead of time because she does give pop quizes. If you read the books and take notes from the speakers,and work hard on the paper for sure you will pass the class.

I learned a lot. start working on your papers early. Make appointments to see her about the papers and you'll get a lot of what she wants on them. She's very kind, and helpful. But, a hard grader on the papers. Read both books b/c exams are alright and quizzes are unpredictable. gluck

Great class! Pop quizzes every week..keep up on the readings. Two exams..mostly from the readings. Lots of speakers who are great and informative. No exceptions are made so you need to be on top of your work!! She is no joke...you get what you get and that is it!

She is so sweet and knows a lot. Speakers come in and talk to you. She grades the papers pretty tough and the tests were harder than I thought. She is very approachable. I must say, after taking this class I switched majors!
