SHE IS A VERY VERY VERY AND TOOO HARD TEACHER OF ENGLISH AT CHABOT. DON'T EVEN THINK TO TAKE HER!! IF YOU SERIOUSLY WANT TO PASS ANY ENGLISH CLASS THEN DON'T EVER TAKE THIS LADY. SHE NEVER GIVES A FAIR GRADE. SHE EVEN USES VERY HARD TEXTS.

Her teaching style may not fit everyone, but if you are a person who loves to discuss issues, philosophy and the deeper meanings of literature, this class is recommended.. Assigns 3-4 essays throughout the semester and lets you revise for a better grade. She is very lenient, open minded, and willing discuss almost anything.

The instructor is very knowledgeable of the subject matter and has a profound love of Shakespeare. Very open and willing to compromise with her students. Her lectures were, at times hard to endure, but were full of insight. An overall enjoyable person to be around.

I would fight her points constantly, and she would deny my point and then 10 minutes later bring it up as if it was her idea. She would be willing to help with revisions but she would constantly contradict herself, she'd tell me to write something a certain way, and when i do she'd mark me down for it. If your opinionated don't take her classes!!!

absolutely horrible teacher. i knew from day one i would learn nothing from her when we got in an argument because she said that dogs don't think (which is absurd..). also very disrespectful to anyone who doesn't speak english as their first language. couldn't stand her. stay away!

Ms Swanson is a great teacher. she made the class very interesting. one should be prepared to participate in class, do a lot of home work, read that awful text and prepared to put in some serious study time. not for the lazy!!! suggest you have ms swanson read your draft paper... she will help you make the paper better.VERY HELPFUL

Class is very hard, yet rewarding if you can comprehend complex essay writings of people like Nietzsche. This class will open your mind and will stress the hell out of it at the same time as you attempt to understand what is going on. Swanson writes illegibly, but cares about her students. TONS of writing assignments and reading to do! HARD!

Incredibly fun class to attend. very interesting conversations arise; she is appreciative of insight and comments; workload can be somewhat large, but expectations of quality are higher. Write quality works and she wont care if you just hit the minimum amt of pages.

She's a good teacher for people who never come to class. Hardly ever takes attendance. Only assigns 3 or 4 essays and lets you turn them in late without grading them down, and lets you do revisions for a better grade. Her instructions are very unclear and her handwriting is impossible to read.

Everyone that doesn't like thinking for themselves complains about the "structure" of this class. Welcome to a world where you actually have to think. The reason everything is so open-ended is to try to get you to think a little more deeply on the subject matter, not just regurgitate what you skimmed the night before. The class is gold.

Very helpful, kind, flexible and understanding. Her class is mostly discussion about the books. No final or midterm, only 3 or 4 essays. If you do not like the essay topics then she will help you make your own. Flexible on due dates, just talk with her.I wish I had her for 1A. I STRONGLY recommend this teacher for English 1A, 4 and 7. Awesome teacher! She is up front about what she wants. If you are confused she will help you. I ended up with a B in her class and got a B on every essay and did like, 2 homework assignments. She is amazing, i STRONGLY reccomend her!

Great teacher. The reading is interesting so that makes it much easier. I even took her 7 class the next semester. She grades the essays on the content, not grammatical stuff, which i think is awesome. Shes all around a great teacher.

a great prof for anyone willing to be challenged, and especially if you intend to go on to a 4-year. Not for the faint of heart. She demands a lot, but if you go with her, you'll come out at the end knowing how to write about literature, and frankly, how to think. She'll teach you how to learn. Difficult material.
