Lisa is one of the most amazing prof at McGill Ling! I love Syntax and her:), but honestly I had a tough time understanding her lectures for the first few weeks, since I did not take syntax 1 with her, but when it comes for help, she was super helpful! This was not a easy course, but if you try hard, she will be on your side. So never give up!!!

Comment:
The course comes with a very heavy workload. While Lisa is an amazing linguistic and a great professor this is not one of her best courses. It is very syntactic since that is her field of specialty, but this makes the course very difficult for people who are not particularly gifted when it comes to syntax.

Lisa is incredible. Already enjoyed syntax going in, but hadn't really understood it that well from 201. I took four all LING courses this semester and this is the class I learned (and retained) the most in! I wish I could've gotten into LING 571 (Syntax 2) but I'll have to wait a year. ofc, take this with a grain of salt if this isn't you!

Lisa is my favorite prof at McGill, she's the reason I fell in love with syntax. BAD: She's not very clear, so do your readings ahead of time, but once you know what she's talking about, she's brilliant. GOOD: kind hearted, always available for help, very invested in TEACHING not just research, fair exams, she really wants you to learn.

Amazing Prof! I hated syntax in my intro class and was terrified of taking this class and now its my favorite! Quizzes are easy but assignments will make you think!

She is a fantastic person, very knowledgeable, always smiling, and always willing to learn something new... but I did have a lot of difficulty understanding syntax I, especially when you get into ECM and things like that. When I took it, we had to Carnie's book, read it, and then in class she'd say "ok, so everything you read is wrong". :

I really enjoyed her as a professor. Her lectures were clear and well-organized, the textbook was helpful but not necessary (and freely provided!), when I needed help on an assignment she set up a time to meet with me, and she gave great feedback.

Lisa is a phenomenal prof, like many in the Linguistics department. I regret not having taken anything with her before syntax II. It's not an easy class (the problem sets are INSANE) but she marks reasonably and you walk away from lectures feeling like you have a good understanding of the material. Plus she's also super-cool as a human being...

hard course, but not the worst of professors. if you really focus on the readings/assignments, she's follow-able. but it IS hard stuff for non-ling students (in intro), and sometimes she goes a bit too fast, or assumes an understanding of things that people just don't have. parts of her tests are tricky, but they're largely doable.

She is excellent. Shows real interest in her field, and has alot to offer any student in linguistics. Don't listen to the ratings given by intro students, they don't know anything about good teaching.

Great. Interested, interesting, and ALWAYS willing to help. Comments about 201 apply to anyone teaching that class. A smaller class will always be more intimate and personal, but even in INTRO, go see her if you feel the need, I'm sure you'll benefit from it.

She was nothing special, just an average lecturer. Her exams were decent, but the homework was very hard. The TAs in this class do most of the teaching during the conferences. They do a good job

Insanely long difficult assignments and she only gives one week to complete them. Her lectures are very unclear and uninformative and she appears to enjoy challenging students at the cost of their sanity and marks.
