She has very odd requirments for her essays unlike any academic class I have taken. Very vague, much like the others have said. The course revolves around a poor textbook and course notes only. She marks very hard as well.

TERRIBLE. She does not give a clear outline for what she wants you do on papers or the exams and then gives terrible marks, because you did not do what she wanted you to do. I would never ever take her class.

Lorna Doerkson has to be the worst professor. No coherent course outline, does not follow U of Sask's Syllabus style, doesn't provide the courtesy of hole punching paper handouts, leaves out vital information for essays on info sheets, and goes off on irrelevant tangents. Doesn't use PAWS; hard to communicate with, similar to talking to a wall.

Took both SOC 212/214 as independent courses so no lectures to attend. You need to be on top of the readings or you will easily fall behind. There were two writing assignments for each term plus a final exam. I found Lorna marked really tough, but gives extremely detailed feedback for how you can improve. Avoid if you are looking for an easy course

This prof is awful! Never responds to e-mails. Or when she does she states "it is for your interpretation only." She is completely vague in all her essay topics. You follow her essay guideline exactly and she docks you marks for writing about what she told you to write about! Ridiculous. She should not be a prof anywhere!!!

She is absolutely TERRIBLE. Her lectures do not even relate to Sociology! In the entire 2 months I have been in her class, I have not learned a thing about what Sociology really is and how it helps society. Avoid her at all costs. She isn't worth spending your tuition or time on.

Unless you have prior knowledge and a passion for sociology, do not take her class. She is extremely vague and her lectures seem to have no clear direction. She marks very unfairly. She has a rating of less than 2 for a reason!

Lorna's lectures are boring and she often goes off on tangents. She's a difficult marker but her notes are clear and she is great at offering help. She's very passionate about what she does and cares about her students. Put in the effort and you'll get the marks.

She is the worst prof I have ever had. She sets up her students for failure then won't answer with clarity when you ask questions. She refuses to answer direct questions at all, and instead goes on paragraph tangents that have little to do with anything. Don't take any of her classes.

Yeah i would say that you should avoid this prof. Says one thing and marks another. I feel like i've learned nothing. She once gave a 30 speech about how we should get used to failing in our lives because that's what being an adult is all about. Compared to other profs I feel like this was a waste of time and money.

Mrs. Doerkson is a nice lady with good intentions. However, she is incredibly boring. As the class progressed, less students attended. She will likely bore you, however, she does occasionally state something that could be found quite funny. She is very interested in giving you a complete knowledge of sociology, but she might bore you to death first.

Took this course by corrospondance.. as I have withe the marjotiy of my classes. It has been the worst class I have ever taken.. I love the topic and info! But she is a horrible teacher. She is very unclear about what she wants for papers and made questionable comments in her grading that do not help for future assignments. LACK OF COMMUNICATION!!

I wrote about a women's magazine for the term paper. Lorna stated that as a man, I would not have written on such a magazine nor would I have any understanding of women's issues. She claimed a women had written my paper and gave me a 0%. I dropped the course due to discrimination. The university sided with me and refunded all my tuition. Watch out.

Turn and run. That's all I have to say. It was literally a struggle to stay awake in class and nothing she taught was helpful in assignments or on the exam. Everyone I know who took the class was unhappy with their mark in relation to other classes. Good intentions sometimes but definitely unhelpful, the textbook taught us.

Um yeah, listen to the reviews. I didn't, and so regretted it. Took it through correspondence. Unclear assignments, unclear marking, and she sent us the outline to the wrong final. She seems intelligent, but she is not a very good prof. Definitely avoid.

I'm glad to hear i am not alone! Took this class by correspondence, should have taken it in a classroom setting. Lorna is completely unclear about her expectations, penalizes you if you do too well, and her essay topics are vague and insurmountable;I'm a senior student and have never gotten bad grades like she gives, AVOID HER!

It seems to me in previous years it has been difficult to be a student of Lorna Doerkson's judging by the comments made on this site about her, however, I have no history of how these classes were conducted at the time so on that note - I think that Lorna's class now as it stands is very insightful and interesting, at the end of every class she off
