She is one of my favorite professors at Purchase and is a very interesting person. She is very insightful in her observations and is very good at leading class discussions about books we have read. do not take politics and writing unless you are completely into lit and writing and can speak "intellectually" otherwise youre screwed and you will do poorly on papers, yelin is an amazing woman filled with information but she favors lit majors and creative writing majors

This class was awesome. If it wasn't for Prf. Yelin, I would have failed and gone under, but she gave me a chance to prove myself when I needed a little extra time, and I did. I learned a lot and my understanding of Indo-British identity was enhanced substantially! Awesome lady!!

In some ways, Louise Yelin is just like the rest of us. She can be whiny and insecure and moody. And she is very loud. But she is so astoundingly smart that her lectures make you feel like you must have just added notches onto your IQ. She can be so caring and understanding.. most of the time. She makes lectures very interesting.

Fun, funny, passionate, approachable, quirky. And why did some people imply she's biased or plays favorites? I didn't notice that and I tend to be extremely sensative to that stuff. Sometimes she goes on odd tangents (though she'll always let you know beforehand by saying "Sidebar...").

Louise is my queen; she is the embodiment of what I want to be when I grow up: dedicated, genius, caring, thoughtful, kind and most of all a rockin' chick. Just don't e-mail her with any emoticons, she hates them. I graduated 6 years ago and she still keeps in touch with me; now she's teaching my little sister and I could not have hoped for her to be in more skilled, motivating and brilliant hands. Louise Yelin, I'll shout it from the rooftops: I love you!

She works you hard, but still maintains her humanity and really seems to care about her students. She also made Bleak House approachable, though it was a daunting book to look at...like a 1000 pages!
