Wonderful, eye-opening class. Very passionate professor who truly knows about the material she teaches. NOT an easy class: prepare to work hard! Also be prepared to be "taken down a notch" when you receive paper feedback, but it'll improve your writing overall. You'll learn so much that, if you like poetry, you'll enjoy the class.

Has a great deal of poetry knowledge. Is passionate about sharing this. Yet is scatter-brained/unprepared, makes excuses why she doesn't have midterm papers graded yet, then when she does grade them, writes insulting, informal comments if paper doesn't meet her "publishable" expectations. Annoying: she brings her personal issues into the clasroom.

Prof. Koolish was my favorite professor at San Diego State. I was there for a MA in American Lit. She is a fantastic professor who knows how to break down barriers and enlighten students. She is a mind opening professor. If she ever teaches again, don't leave SDSU without taking a course from her. Highly recommended professor.

Sounds like a cliche when I say it, but literally life changing classes I took from her. I owe much of my adult consciousness to Prof. Koolish and consider her a must for anyone open to learning in a deeply heartfelt way. Very dedicated, very personable, a true joy to learn from. And I'm still learning.

Brilliant, caring, opinionated, and deeply passionate about social and cultural issues and justices/injustices. A wonderful human being! However, there are times when she seems to be carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.

A brilliant and passionate professor with varied interests--both creative and academic. I learned a good deal from reading selections and class discussions. Dr. Koolish is giving, selfless, and incredibly willing to work with her students. In my two years at SDSU, her class was, without a doubt, one of the most informative and enjoyable.

This class should have been great, contemporary american lit. - my favorite kind. Well, she killed it for me. Uses class sessions as her therapy sessions, goes off on tangents CONSTANTLY ranting about politics and religion. Stay after class and talk to her you find she's actually pretty nice one-on-one, but I still dreaded class every week.

Better title for this course: ANYTHING WRITTEN BY ANYONE WHO IS NOT WHITE, NOT A CHRISTIAN, NOT A HETRO-SEXUAL, OR NOT REPUBLIAN! Just another socialist professor adrift on a democratic sea. Mostly, she WANTS you to LIKE her and if an A is what it takes, it's an A you'll get, no matter the quality of your classwork. Against the war? THAT = an A+++

One of the WORST selections of US literature of the last half of the 20th century (only worse selection was Maggie Jaffe's for the same class). Class should be, retitled: Favorite books I read between 1960 to 2000 (though I may not have actually read them all, many are on my favorite subject matter, feminist sex). NO successful mainstream writers!

I took Dr. K for an Ethnic Lit class- she gave us all the opportunity to explore writing by African American, Native American, Asian American, Latino literature etc and all the writing that generally gets ignored in the "canon"- (not my canon)- Dr. K is passionate about the issues of justice and racism in a way that is needed in this world- do your

The most knowledgable and passionate english professor you will find at sdsu. Grades hard but gives you a chance to go over the paper with her early. Liberal and refreshing course material. She pushes you to think but never in a condescending way.

Fifteen years later, she still stands out as the worst professor I had in the English Dept. She was just as oversensitive and hypochondriacal then. She said on the first day of that class, "The only good writing since 1950 has been by lesbian poets." I'm gay and I thought that was the same narrow-mined horseshit she accused everyone else of.

Very unethical, very insecure. Uses other's materials. Is one of the reasons why tenure should be abolished. Is indeed a HUGE member of disease-of-the-moth club. Her personal illnesses were topics of class discussions and this was a graduate class. Shows what SDSU is all about!
