Best professor I've ever had. I've never actually liked Shakespeare until I took it with Mac. On the hotness scale, well, let's just say that I'm a straight man and I'd leap into Mac's bed in a heartbeat. Just read Shakespeare to me, Mac, just read.

I took British Lit. from Mac -- in 1968 at Grinnell College. I am now a "senior" English professor at Geneseo. Nearly 40 years later, Mac remains an inspiration to me -- a serious scholar who nurtured his inner raving lunatic. I am a better and happier teacher for what I learned from him. Mac is a great professor by every imaginable standard.

Lots of hard reading. Expected to read for a few hours each day. Hard to keep up in the class. Difficult essays. He can be fun and interesting, but if you don't like to read, this class is rough. Although he can be pretty lenient sometimes on grading depending on his mood.

Mac is a tough teacher, but an excellent one. He knows his Shakespeare inside out, and is a talented oral interpreter. Though he is an avowed lefty/Marxist to the bone, he is usually quite fair in class, and doesn't penalize on politics. Good man.

Mac Nelson knows his stuff, so if you want experience and I liked that he was a teacher that was both politically and socially aware. Great teacher in Shakespeare and Poetry--he made it exciting. He can be a tough grader, but he pushes students to think.
