He knows a lot and class is interesting, but you have to memorize the details. I learned a ton, but it's hard to do well in his class. He covers how things are made and why. He overemphasizes metal casting because it's his specialty. Get ready to memorize machine diagrams and cost graphs. Don't expect feedback on tests. No late HW. Hardest B ever.

Literally the best professor I have had at WPI. His tests are super hard, the average on ours was around 65-70. That being said, he is very fair, he lets you know exactly what his expectations are, and the material that is on the tests is always stuff that has been covered either in class or in the reading.

Those who can get an A in Prof. Makhlouf's course are real good students who work hard.

Absolute worst professor I have had at WPI thus far. 80% of the grade is based on your midterm and final, which he bases off of a large chunk of material that he says is all fair game. Its all memorization and not learning. He also lectures off of slides that he will not post. He doesn't even use Blackboard. AVOID HIM IF YOU CAN.

Everything he taught in the class is actually useless for exam. He likes to knock down the good students.

Excellent. If I could take every class with him I would. Explanations are concise and clear, and follow a very precise flow that makes perfect sense. Exams are hard but he is very upfront about that (know all derivations, just like he says, e.g.). Be confident, try hard and he will respect you; if you disagree with a grade talk to him.

Useless at teaching anything. Reads his own PPT slides word for word, and does not explain what point he is trying to make. Gave material that was a copy of a copy, and useless to the class all together. Would not help even when asked. Did not care if you understood or not. If he answered a question, it was with an answer that meant nothing.

Gives good lectures, but grades on tests and homeworks are impossible, partial credit does not exist. seems to enjoy failing his undergrads, and is not very helpful if you go to his one office hour a week. Most tests are not designed to be finished in an hour.

Do NOT take a course with this professor. I am a senior with a minor in Materials and still found his exams comically unfair and graded as harshly as possible. He knows and explains material very well... however, because of the the personal satisfaction he seems to gain from failing good students, I would advise to NEVER take a course with him.

This guy really knows his stuff. He is always extremely clear on what he teaches you. You better pay attention because he only teaches from transparancies and PP slides. You might get carpal tunnel from furiously copying down notes. If you are interested in the subject matter he will definitely help you out. Exams were reasonable assuming you study

He wasn't very thorough in teaching the material. Constantly told us to read the book, but the book is pretty useless. Wasn't clear about what was gonna be on the tests. Very arrogant. Seemed proud of the large number of NRs. Should have been a managable course. He made it a hassle. Tests were very hard to study for and harshly graded.

By far the worst teacher I have ever had at WPI/ever. He doesn't have office hours, is disrespectful to the students, and prides himself on failing half the class. If you're in it-just get out now. He will make your life .

If you value your sanity and/or gpa avoid es2001 with Makhlouf. Throughout the entire course I have seen perhaps one example done out for me. Homeworks are the first time much of the material is seen, and is simply graded wrong or right, giving no indication as to how to how to properly solve it. Tests involve materials not even covered in HW...

Probably the worst teacher I've had so far. Despite it being an easy subject, he makes his tests difficult by requiring extensive memorization. He lectures almost straight form the book, making class a waste of time. He assigns a lot of work and doesn't go over most of it till the after the homework is due. Doesn't have study help sessions.

This class wasn't the easiest in the world, most people had trouble on the first test, except for me. However I had just finished Chem 1020, so all the stuff with finding the density of BCC etc came easy to me. The other tests seemed to be fairly easy comparatively. Most problems on the test were fairly similar to the HW problems and practice exam.
