The textbook was $200 and I didn't touch it. Lectures were interesting, brief overview of western/european art history. He's very architecture focused. First essay was to write about a building in Toronto, exam was take home and based on slide identification, you need to know characteristics of each era but the lectures will tell you

English accent. He's nice, funny, and very knowledgeable. It helps to be close to his TA, and attend tutorials. Exams were take home, essays were given from a list of 10 options, your choice. You don't need to attend if you're very good at researching, but he cares a lot about participation. Take pics of his slides if you need help.

Great prof, i've taken 3 classes with him and i wish he taught more courses. very informative lectures, he is extremely knowledgable about his subject, and is completely willing to help out with assignments to make sure that you are actually learning as much as you can. 100% recommend taking a course with him if you need art history credits.

Great prof. His lectures were great and the assignments were reasonable. The text book seemed to be additional information, I found the lectures were enough to learn the material, but I think he knows every publication on gothic architecture off by heart if there's ever anything you want to research further (he's also written half of them).

Textbook is required, but if you miss his lectures you miss 50% or more of the material essential for passing. He's awesome, goes on little tangents about the art - especially architecture - and adds humour to his lectures. He actually compared the Mona Lisa to the parody with Miss Piggy. EXCELLENT lecturer. British accent; amazing to listen to.

I had to come in for help because I struggled in the class, but he skipped a few of our meetings. Overall, he was a fun person to listen to. Bit annoying when he'd go off though.

Malcolm is the best educator that I have ever experienced. Helpful, accessible, and extremely generous with his time. His photographic memory will astound you, as will his slide collection of 190,000 slides. This professor has changed the way my studies will continue, his love of Romanesque and Gothic architecture is very catching.
