He is a really nice person with an unique personality that you will either love or hate. The best way to pass his classes is to ask questions to get a clear outline of what he will want. Overall, in my opinion, he is a truly caring person who cares about his students if the students care to learn what he is teaching. Don't expect an easy A.

His class discussions are always entertaining, and he is so incredibly smart. You will learn a lot from him. He's a tough grader, though, and he doesn't believe in adjectives. If you have the opportunity, take his class! He won't disappoint you.

Also took 195, 236, 374. This is my favorite professor at UNC. He is one of the smartest individuals you will ever come across and he is extremely fun to learn from. He is a hard grader but as long as you prove your points, he will love what you write. I recommend this teacher to every student on the face of the planet.

Dr. Embry expects his students to come prepared to class and mercilessly teases those who are unprepared. However, there is never a dull moment in his class and you should expect to be challenged. He is quite brilliant and opinionated, but he thrives off of creative interpretations, as long as you can prove them!

Dr. Embry is eccentric. He is playful in the way that he teases you but there is hardly a dull moment to spare in class. If you don't come to class and read specifically what he asks, you aren't going to pass, but coming to class is well worth it.

Embry is a great teacher. His classes are not only interesting in content and because of the way he teaches, but they also seem to inspire a lot of discussion which is great. Some will say it's best to just go with his opinion, but the best response from him came when I argued against him.

I was overjoyed by many of the reactions by classmates in Embry's classes. Only offends students who go home every weekend to see mommy. An intuitive instructor who speaks to the importance of feeling in literature. Took many classes with him - all were fantastic.

Marcus was one of the best profs I've ever had. The only reason he likes you best when you "agree with him" is because he knows what the author intended a good part of the time and because he is incredibly intelligent. If you take control of your own education and ask him for help you will not be ridiculed. I LOVED his class

I will always defend Marcus as a great teacher and, simply, a good man. The class was interesting and I learned a lot. My English adviser (advisor?) was worthless. Marcus helped me out. He made fun of me, too, but I saw no meanness.
