This particular professor was very specific about the forum posts for some reason. No other professor that I've had has been that way. She is kind and helpful. She is very in to religion though. I could see why she does co-run a church. She's a good teacher and I did learn a lot. She is kinda flakey though. She also expects a lot of reading.

I'm not one to complain about a professor, but her teaching methods are very questionable. She'll quiz you each class on a chapter... then she'll lecture you on the same chapter. Somewhat counter-intuitive, but her lectures are pretty decent. She definitely knows what she's talking about, too. Just be careful if you get her. She's not easy.

Not the most enjoyable teacher. She is very discussion based so you wont do well unless you participate. Make sure you speak at least 1x/class. You must read/bring your textbook every class. She might throw the class out of the room on a bad day. Test questions are intuitive so DONT overthink them or over-study. Content is interesting enough.

Ah, Dr. Slattery. The hardest part of this class is deciphering her test questions. They hardly make sense, and have multiple answers that could be correct. It turns material that's pretty simple and straightforward into a 70% grade on a test. Not a bad person, but needs to make drastic adjustments to her teaching practices.

Slattery is the worst teacher at JMU by far. She is off her rocker and makes zero sense in class regarding assignments and when they are due. She talks more about her personal life than class related work. A very rude woman that I would avoid at all costs.

Not an easy professor by any means, but not impossible either. If she sees you sleeping during class or texting on your phone, she'll tear you apart. Make sure to go to her office hours to clarify ANY questions you have about your articles. It's the people who are disrespectful/don't care/don't take the class seriously that do poorly in the class.

Don't be afraid to take Slattery, she's a very kind, understanding woman. Go to her office hours, she likes to get to know her students. Reading every night, 20+ pages for each class, and YES you do have to read or you wont pass the quizzes which are also every class. Just do the reading. Period.

the class is not easy. lots of reading every night, with tough quizzes on the reading every class. exams have many of the quiz questions though she does curves them 5-10 points. it is possible to do well if you do the reading thoroughly, and review the text and powerpoints before tests.

STAY AWAY SHE IS HORRIBLE. SHE DOES NOT RETURN THINGS IN A TIMELY MANNER. We turned a paper in March and we are still waiting on our grades. She gave half the kids grades of incompletes since she didnt start grading them til a week before finals. AVOID her, she is the only teacher for 203 so I recommend for you to be prepared.

This professor is AWFUL, literally the worst teacher I've ever had in my life and she is the only one who teaches 203. She is a mean person and a terrible teacher. Her tests are impossibly hard. She spends a full week explaining how to cite sources for the 200 point research paper.

She's a bit crazy, but I actually liked her in a weird way. As long as you are on her good side, then she will give you a good grade. Go to her office hours just to talk to her. She is a very nice lady and is often misunderstood. Both 203 and 426 are tough, but as long as you go to office hours, you'll end up with a good grade.

Avoid her at all costs. She is the only teacher for 203 but is old, so hold out and she might retire. I just had her for fall 09 and grades were due last Monday at 3:00 PM. It's the following monday at 2:20 and our grades are still not up. Her class is ridiculous.

I don't know why people think she knows her stuff... she doesn't teach anything! She basically just drills us on what we're already reading in the textbook just to see if we're reading. If she thinks people are uninterested or aren't reading, she'll kick em out of class. We're supposed to learn in the classroom not have to perform for her approval

Definitely knows her stuff, but not that great of a professor, a lot of the people have it right with their posts, she's pretty rough around the edges. I worked my ass off in summer session, and squeaked out an A-. The only professor for 203, so it's sort of inconvenient.

Professor definitely knows her stuff but is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL at teaching. Doesn't teach what you're actually supposed to learn, but teaches her TANGENTS. She's the only teacher for KIN203 so there's no getting out of it, but beware!
