DONT BE FOOLED BY THESE GOOD REVIEWS. Yes, Marina Is very sweet. However, SHES NOT THE ONE GRADING. The grader, swartzentruber or whatever her name is, IS A DEMON SPAWN HERSELF. She grades as if we are all freaking English Major Theatre freaks. (no offense to theatre majors) If u don't give a flying kahoot about Shakespeare, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Rip

This is probably your best bet to fulfill the English cluster. I think the class is boring because it's mainly all discussion from the same 5 people (not graded discussion btw), so it's hard to know what you should study for her tests. The classes themselves aren't difficult, but the essays are graded harshly and the tests can be challenging

LOVED HER. SO SO CUTE. She was so passionate and sweet. I thought the class material was interesting as well. She tries to connect what we talk about in class to real life ( We watched parts of 8 Mile to compare it to Beowulf). Just loved everything about her and this class!

Professor Marina Favilla is an awesome genius teacher! She is always helpful and available if you want to get help. The Necessary Shakespeare was a difficult class for most of us but she made it a fun class.

She is sooooo sweet! I personally think shakespeare is kind of boring but she really makes the class enjoyable. Every class is complete lecture, but I promise it's not bad at all. We had 3 tests (including the final), and she drops your lowest grade. 3 papers that aren't terrible, but someone else grades those. DEFINITELY TAKE HER!! super easy

She is such an amazing professor who is clearly passionate about Shakespeare. All the tests are super easy and if you know the basics of each play, you"ll get an A. I read sparknotes for everything and thought every test was easy. She does not grade the papers herself. She loves to help and loves people who participate.

She was a pretty good professor. Nothing in her class was extremely difficult. In my class, we had three graduate students who worked alongside of her. She never seemed to have a clear lesson plan, and I didn't know exactly how to study for the final. But, she is really nice and really cares about poetry.

She made Shakespeare not too bad, so that's a good thing. She can be a little confusing at times when explaining assignments, but she'll normally clarify if you ask. Overall pretty good.

I didn't know what to expect out of Dr. Favila's Shakespeare class, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. She uses actors from the Theater department to act scenes out from each play we read, which was really cool. There are 2 exams and a final but the final is basically just a third exam and not cumulative, and three papers.

Studying Shakespeare is always hard. Only 3 exams and 3 papers so you have to work hard. Don't HAVE to go to class so long as you actually understand the plays pretty well. Have to see a show in Staunton. Exam questions are mostly identification passages (who said this) and truefalse, with a few multiple choice.

Professor Favila was very vibrant and passionate. Lectures are fascinating and all discussion based, papers aren't too bad, the readings are interesting, and tests aren't too tough. She required you to see a Shakespeare play in Staunton which I thought I'd hate but I actually loved. I highly recommend Professor Favila!

I think the difficult thing about this class is that another teacher did the grading so it was tough to get a B but that doesn't really reflect on her. You generally have to go to the lectures but they're pretty good. And she'll make you see a Shakespeare play in Staunton but that was actually really enjoyable.

I LOVED this class! Very interesting, fun, and easy. The tests are a breeze. As long as you come to class and pay attention, you'll do fine. Four tests, and she drops the lowest one at the end of the semester. A few papers, but most of them are very small. She's also very nice, and tries to remember your name. Definitely take this class; it's great

Her class is... interesting. She definitely has a different way of teaching that I wasn't prepared for coming into the class. Other then the reading there are a lot of writing assignments you must do and she doesn't remind you of them so they easily sneak up on you. She goes off on long tangents. However, her class is pretty easy.

Favila's class was different to say the least. Lectures are pure discussion. You need to know the readings and understand it personally to pass her 3 tests and final. She doesn't do the best as explaining the material or telling you how to prepare for tests. She is helpful in her office though.

DO NOT take this class if your not either very good at english or a english major. Im a A-, B+ student and I went to every class, did all the work, and barely pulled out a C. Her tests are extremely specific off of stories and plays that are super long. Almost impossible to get a B.

Professor Favila is a very bright and talented woman who is very passionate about her work but I personally wasn't very interested in this class. You definitely have to pay attention/take notes/read/participate if you want to do well because her tests are very specific and challenging. Go to her for extra help and review, she'll help you!

LOVED Marina! I've never had so much fun in a class that's mostly discussion. Almost no work for the class except 2 papers and a midterm and final. She knows so much about film, I've learned more than I thought I would. Overall, Marina is very nice and extremely helpful and a very fair grader. I would definitely recommend taking her class!

This professor is so nice and so passionate about what she does. She is always willing to help and really gets into her subject. She tries her best to have all of her students do well. The only issue is sometimes she doesn't explain assignments too well, but if you ask her before or after class she is more than willing to talk to you.

Professor Favila is extremely nice and full of energy. She gets passionate about movies and will make you enjoy the ones you don't like at first viewing. She grades papers fairly and doesn't talk about the book buts gets tests questions from it. Overall, a great professor and class if you're interested in film.
