more of a clown rather than a teacher. majority of students don't attend lecture, and as a result, help the ones that do show up. class is based on a bell curve, so he has to give out A's, to a certain amount of students, regardless of how dumb they are. This doesn't make those kids smarter than the ones that get a B or a C. book is worthless

Comment:
Be able to memorize, don't expect to be entertained. Fairly challenging, not sure what Decamp's motives where. Can't tell if he genuinely values the student, or if hes just a systematized component of the educational machine. Occasionally one can catch a flash of compassion in his eyes, but most of the time he seems reserved and difficult to read

He gives out only a certain number of "A's" in the course, basically a handful. Although there are some A-'s and even more in the B range.. his grading is extremely ambiguous. Attending class is honestly not even mandatory, considering he reads off the slides. Overall, an alright professor, but nothing too special.

Class wasn't very interesting, but for me organic is really just a dry subject. I got around 90 on the first two exams and 70 on the others because I just stopped studying and didn't take any notes. Ended up with a B. Can't complain, but I don't feel like I retained much. Problematic for those taking the MCAT, perhaps.

good teacher. read slides before and after lecture, and do handouts and know methodology behind problems on the old exams to get an A. book is unnecessary. sometimes he is a bit dry, unless questions are asked. most students did not bother to show up, but a lot less effort is needed if attended.

First, you won't get a good grade without putting effort into this class. This class is information intensive, and it's a lot of work, graded only by tests and quizzes. 5 quizzes, 5 exams, drops the lowest from each category, plus a cumulative mult-choice final. Go to SI sessions. I devoted 4-5 hrs each week to get an A-.

First off, this is not an easy class so ignore the comment below his one. This class takes a lot of time and effort to fully understand the material covered and anyone who says it is easy is just lying to you. You can't get an A+ or even an A without putting in a lot of effort. If you don't believe me, ask Dr. Decamp to see previous final grades.

the class is retarded easy. don't buy the textbook. just buy the coursepack and use it as a reference. for studying and learning, use the slides on ctools. just go through the slides once before lecture and once after lecture and once before the test, and you can get an A+ that way. don't bother with old exams.

DeCamp is a great professor for Orgo II. He sounds a bit like a textbook, but this also means he's very clear. He answers questions well and offers solid advice for success. Nice guy. He goes by a class coursepack, which is SO helpful for studying. His tests are very straight-forward, so you will do fine if you study hard.

he is an OK teacher, not that great teachingwise. one thing that i do like about him is that he keeps ochem to a sane level. doesn't try to weed out students, and doesn't try to screw over students. students who do bad in his class are ones who screw themselves over. with decamp, what you put in is what u get out(unlike other ochem professors)

he is horrible. dont take him no matter what. he just spends the time reading right off the slides. he also needs to know that orgo goes way beyond resonance and the VSEPR theory. If you show him ur good with resonance and the VSEPR theory, you'll get an A. it seems that's all his class is about.

i have never struggled so much in a class. i had to completely rely on external sources to get the grade i got. the book makes no sense whatsoever at all. his lecture is jumbled up and all over the place and indirect. it's like he's beating around the bush to make sure we don't understand the concepts. his teaching method is set for failure.

Ok so to start I can't stand chemistry but professor decamp made me love orgo. This is a tough class but put in the time and you'll do great. He posts old exams and a lot of worksheets. The more exams and worksheets the more prepared you'll be. Study, this isn't genchem. Good luck

First of all, before you listen to any of the raters take a look at their interest level before taking the class. How can you take advice from people who had 0 interest in the class, that is setting yourself up for failure. Read your notes, attend lecture, attend recitation, do practice exams and all his worksheets and ASK QUESTIONS when stuck.

he really is that bad. he displays no enthusiasm at all, and has no interest in what he's teaching. but...ANYone can get an A in this guys class. I got a C in gen chem and an A in his class. Reason is that you just need to know how to do the old exams and your set.

Great professor. Tests are tricky but it's organic chemistry. It's a hard class regardless who you take. He post's his old test and plenty of optional worksheets on c-tools. I recommend doing them and also attending SI sessions. Do not take this class if you're not willing to put the time in.

Im halfway through the semester and i absolutely love this teacher! He tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the exams, and gives you plenty of practice sheets and one of his old exams. Very nice guy and funny too. Just pay attention in class and read the book and you'll be golden. EC on every exam, and they're not even very hard

Firstly, don't buy the textbook he tells you to buy--it sucks and is inefficient, but instead, buy the francis carey book, thats where he gets his test q's from. next, do the old exams. you will be set for an A- that way. I am a complete idiot, and I aced the class, hence idiot-proof class.
