Very disappointed with this professor. Used to be a 4.0 student, that is until I took this guy. Quite disappointed in my C grade. His lectures are ok, but his tests are INCREDIBLY HARD. He gives take-home quizzes which take 12 hours and result in an F. Once Eastman stated, "I was never a C,B, or even an A- student, so I wouldn't know how it feels."

Comment:

Arguably the best math teacher I have ever had. Is he hard, yes. Does he expect your full effort, Is he clear, yes. Is he an easy A, no. But, we are here to learn and no matter your grade, you will come out of his class better prepared than any easy instructor. I highly recommend him. Especially for math majors. If you're not serious, avoid him.

This guy is EXACTLY why not enough people get into STEM studies, and why so many promising and modest student turn away from engineering. He has some perverse inclination toward ensuring students won't do well. Tests are unnecessarily dry and rigorous within the given time. Compare his failure rate, success rate and tests to that of other classes.

No newcomer to Calculus can get through this class with an A. 90% of the students in my class had already taken the course, and because we are graded on a curve, the class average is so high that those who are new can't realistically get a decent grade that reflects the work they put in. So if you take this class, take it twice for a A.

Gives good lectures. Does not tie the class together very well however. No group work or time for 1 on 1 questions. Very helpful during office hours however. Approachable and respectful. Tests are too difficult for the level that students arrive in. Expensive textbook, litsens to music in loud headphones during test..? overall probably average.

Lectures were always clear and pretty much followed the text book. He even keeps us poor cc kids in mind by assigning hw problems from older versions of the book. His tests are pretty tough. One exam the second highest score was a d. Luckily we were grades on a curve

Eastman is a pretty smart teacher, knows his stuff BUT he grades pretty harshly. Takes off points when you don't show work in tests and homework. Even in the most simplest problems SHOW WORK! I Don't recommend him, he grades unfairly!

Very engaging. Class avg was low but it also seemed that only 12 kids showed up every day except for the day of the test. HW much harder than the tests but it worked to OVERprepare you. Very clear and really loves his subject. Made me realize that math could be fun and now im looking foward to Math5B!!

best teacher ever! his class pushed me to a new level of understanding & proficiency in math. on 1st test of the semester i received an F. after attending his class everyday i began to really enjoy the class. on the 3rd test i received a score of 100%. extremely motivating teacher, very good at what he does. i highly recommend taking this teacher.

This is by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Tests are ridiculously hard; no one ever finishes & class averages around 60%. Helpful if you're willing to go to office hours & he never makes you feel bad for asking questions, BUT, I've never worked so hard on a math class in my life just to barely pass. Lots and lots of work.

Mark is not a good teacher. He promotes an unhealthy kind of competition (for test scores) among his students; this actually undermines any shred of clarity or understanding that you might be able to glean from his incomprehensible lectures. Take anyone but him.

Great lecturer-engaging, jumps on tables, cracks sarcastic jokes. Tests are fairly straight forward, but unfortunately that's where all your points come from and he's a stickler when it comes to grading. Good luck!

AVOID!! Lectures=textbook, verbatim. (Don't get it? Oh well!) Related concepts not always noted as such. Poor time mgmt: lectures miss end of every section, no time for ??s in class. Tests are TOUGH, LONG and unrelated to HW or quizzes. Strict grader. HW not collected, so no feedback there. With him, UR ON UR OWN! This class may kill your mathlove.

Professor Eastman is my favorite teacher of all time. Yes, he would challenge you and would want you to push yourself but his teaching style is very good and he tries hard to make sure you understand the concept. Even if it means that he will get on a chair and do 3-D shapes. He is a very dedicated teacher.

Dr. Eastman is a great teacher. He couldn't be any clearer with his explain of the material. The class average on tests isn't that great, so it will be hard to do well, but it's not because he's a bad teacher. He's a fun charismatic guy that can make the class interesting for you.

Not as hard as his reputation would indicate. I personally don't learn very well from his teaching style, so I have to rely a lot on studying the textbook. HW is not graded or collected, but as he tells you, if you want a good grade in the class, you'll end up doing it.

I really liked the way he teached and presented his notes. He gets a little impatient when someone sk a question. His test are SUPER HARD that if he lets you use a cheat cheat its of no use. I manahed to ge a B tho. I wouldnt take him again, unless I have to.
