Comment:
The two lecture exams, final exam, final project, and 12 6-8hr labs were WAY too much work for the class. The TA was a TOUGH grader, making it feel impossible to get an A, not matter how hard you worked. The final exam and project were graded by Helper, and after having a 77 all semester, I ended up with an A-. Very valuable skills though

Comment:
Very interesting but intense course, because the lectures were interesting, and so were the labs. The tests were very hard, but the laboratory project in the 2nd half of the semester was very interesting as well. Interesting course, but especially those for prospective geologists and mineralogists who have a real interest for gems and minerals.

Dr Helper is a great professor! He is very knowledgeable about all things sedimentology, and takes the time to really explain what's going on during the field trips. There are 6 mandatory weekend field trips, which can be tedious, but Dr Helper does his best to make them enjoyable!

Comment:
Mark Helper is extremely demeaning to students that do not know the content of the class. He is straight up rude sometimes, and is not willing to budge for extenuating circumstances. The weekend field trips suck, expect to say goodbye to six weekends of your semester.
