Comment:
Kaelin is an upbeat, funny guy. People will say that Epi is hard, but he makes it relevant to current events and keeps it interesting. There is VERY little math involved in his class, he mostly focuses on definitions and assigned readings that he provides for you. He is sweet, funny and will really help you out if you're on his good side.

Dr. Kaelin is a very very specific professor. His tests are extremely difficult and he looks for very specific answers. His powerpoints in my opinion are a bit repetitive and didn't really help me when preparing for the exams. You have 3 exams and 1 group projects, so the group project gives you an opportunity to boost your grade.

Not going to lie, if you don't pay attention and study, you won't pass. Dr. Kaelin is a very passionate and helpful teacher. He is always there to help, so don't be intimidated! I've learned so much about epidemiology, and enjoyed having him as a teacher! Dr. Kaelin wants you to properly learn the material, and will provide extra help too!

The actual class was not too difficult but professor Kaelin is unclear in lectures and discussions. He is also rude and has no respect for the students. Tests are ridiculously hard but he ends up grading mostly based on attendance and the big group project.

You have to work for the grade in this class. He's a nice guy, lots of strict rules, no phones, doesn't let you use laptops, can't get up to leave. Lots of homework and tests every week but interesting class and allows open discussion.

A class with potential to be interesting and fulfilling ruined by a professor that does not care about the needs of his students who are willing to learn. I would not recommend taking him unless you absolutely have to.

Very unclear and he takes off points on certain assignments for using the restroom during class time, although he does give a five minute break in the middle of class. He is more focused on your ability to show up than your ability to learn and understand the material. He is also rude at times.

Not sure why these comments are so bad. Professor Kaelin is a great guy who actually cares about what he is teaching. You will have to do some work, but i mean its college. I took a Perspective on Drugs class and i learned so much, and had discussions with the class and the professor on real life issues. I had this class at 8:30 a.m. & it was fine!

Hes a nice guy but I really wished there had been another professor to teach epi. He can be disrespectful and has made students in my class feel inferior and there had been issues with that. The class is bearable but you will be confused and teaching yourself

This was my hardest class in college thus far. He is not clear and I was very lost during lectures. He's the only prof teaching Epi so you can't avoid if him if you're a public health major. I'm a good student and his exams were so hard. The authentic assessment project was INSANE. One day, he called us all "mediocre at best" Hated him

He talks himself in circles and makes an topic of learning, which is hard to understand even more challenging. I taught myself Epi this semester because he is helpless. Good luck learning on your own. Be warned his sense of humor is snarky and sarcastic and he can come across as a bit intrusive to people because he 'tries' to connect w/ students

Kaelin is a great professor, he definitely knows his stuff and can teach it. Confusing at times but he won't move on until he knows you understand the current material. He's also funny and enjoys doing what he does which is more motivating for us college students. He gives a big group project so pay attention and don't miss classes!

At first I was skeptical about taking Epidemiology because I was a sophomore. But I do not regret it! This class is NOT easy. Kaelin is not organized and rambles a lot but he knows his stuff. You have to work super hard in this class. He says he gives pop quizzes but he didn't give us one. But the #1 way to pass this class is to COME TO CLASS!!

I absolutely love Dr. Kaelin. You don't need a textbook, just pay attention to his lectures. He also posts his powerpoints online but it helps to actually show up. I have an 8:30am class but he makes it bearable. Besides, he's a pretty funny guy, and he kinda looks like Santa Claus

There is a group project that lasts from the first class until the last and the partners are assigned. With that being said, you earn the rest of your grade through quizzes and tests. Those can be difficult but if you read through the posted PowerPoints, skim the chapter and end of chapter questions , and pay attention in class you're set.

While the class was generally interesting and Professor Kaelin knows his stuff, his expectations for the group project (to which you are randomly assigned) are ridiculous. You are held accountable for the work of other people. He is the toughest grader I have ever had at MSU. I got my first B and it was an elective. Lots of math involved!

Sweetest man ever. Loves what he does. 1 long paper. 2 tests and a few "pop" quizzes he always gives a heads up about. Need the book. Attendance is mandatory. Very easy class. Aside from paper, no other work. No homework. Sometimes boring, but still a great class. I would absolutely take him again.

So knowledgeable and passionate. If you go over his notes and pay enough attention in class and make sure you understand the concepts, and trust me, he will make you pay attention and will call you out if he notices you dazing off, you will do fine. Exams are challenging. Project was alright but you have to work hard. I got an A, you can too.

Took one of his classes as an elective, he didn't appreciate it, I don't know why. Kind of a mean ersonality and was nasty to me personally, for some reason.
