This course is very useful for the grad students interested in learning a lot on different types of nanomaterials and their properties and applications! Throughout the course we prepared presentations and worked on our presentation skills! which was really useful for me and it really helped me boost my confidence in talking in public!

One of the best profs at UBC. He manages to make the entire semester fun for the class, and has amazing office hour sessions where he'll talk about anything with you.

Dr. MacLachlan is hands-down the best prof I've had in my first year at UBC. His laugh and his energy are contagious, you will get more excited about chemistry than a 1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 6p1 electron in his class. He's a fantastic prof - I missed him all throughout second term chemistry. You will also be dazzled by his daily Hawaiian shirts!

Sense of humor? Check. Helpful? Check. Clear? Check. Check? CHECK. When registering for CHEM courses, you won't really know who's your prof until school starts, so if you pull this guy, consider yourself lucky (you can always crash lectures if you dont have him, but be considerate of limited seats for ACTUAL students). I took zero notes and A+

He's a nice guy that cares about his students. His lecture notes are super confusing though, unless you've already learned and understand the material (beyond a prereading level). I didn't like his lecture style and found it easier just to self teach.

Professor MacLachlan is an awesome professor! He's funny, engaging and one of those profs that can actually teach the material without looking at a textbook because they genuinely know the stuff. He is extremely helpful and even makes an effort to memorize your name if you ask him questions in class or during office hours. Best prof ever!!

Dr. MacLachlan is an amazing professor. He knows how to make everyone laugh, and offers all sorts of interesting facts along with his lectures. His office hours are helpful and fun; he always is willing to show and explain his research projects. Don't expect notes to ever be posted online, he is a chalkboard guy (IMO easier to keep up with).

Extremely enthusiastic, funny, and knowledgeable. He's honest when he doesn't know an answer about a question, but does his best to answer questions and back it up with his logic in class. It was truly a pleasure to be in his class! Course was difficult, even from an AP Chem background, but is completely manageable if you keep up wi
