Dr. Rimple will teach you more than any other theory professor at WCU and will prepare you extremely well for the rest of aurals. He's very engaging and a musical genius. You need to be willing to work very hard in his class. I recommend practicing aurals for an hour a day for the first two weeks and a half hour a day for the rest of the semester.

18th C Counterpoint - really freaking difficult. Must be paying attention in class. He's a genius beyond this mere mortal realm, and he's not the best translator of his own concepts. YOU NEED TO ASK QUESTIONS. He'll be happy to answer anything. He will be ESPECIALLY happy to help you if you show genuine interest in learning. Also, he's not tactful.

Dr. Rimple expected a lot from his class. Always do the homework because he will randomly call on people. Many students came unprepared for class, so don't be that person who is obviously sight reading. His expectations are clear, and you can get a good grade if you really work for it, but the material is difficult. Be prepared for a challenge!

Great teacher! Very clear, provides different perspectives, and cares SO MUCH about his students. He is tough, but if you want to understand music well, Rimple is the man.

This guy is an absolute musical genius. A really nice guy who definitely cares about his students. Theory can be tough, I strongly suggest doing the readings before class so you know what he's talking about. If you need help, don't be afraid to go to his office hours, they help a lot!

Dr. Rimple does not have any structure in his lectures. He wings it. He expects so much from his students yet openly admits to forgetting things for class or not having lessons planned. Almost all of the grade was determined by tests with questions that were graded upon how closely they matched his own opinions. Stay encouraged, don't take him.

Dr. Rimple is an extremely knowledgeable teacher. He's enthusiastic and loves what he teaches. That being said, his classes are no joke. He expects you to work. And if you're in one of his ensembles and you don't practice, his passive aggressive attitude comes out. But if you're looking for a teacher who knows his stuff, Dr. Rimple is it.

A great teacher. He is difficult, but he gives you ample opportunity to do your best or prove your worth. As a Theory Major, his book that he teaches from is wonderful to teach compositional techniques, and it makes even the most boring concepts easy through use of analogies and historic context. If you are organized, this class will be a breeze.

The hardest aurals professor at WCU. Clearly favors students who will show interest in his early music mumbo-jumbo. Very helpful in office hours, but his hours are very limited and were usually when I had other classes. I would avoid taking him if you can. His grading system is simply this; It has to be perfect or you receive zero credit for it!
