I had him for HST 1020 and I loved him as a professor and his class. Took him again for 3170. He does want people to participate in class. His exams are not hard. He gives you a study guide with possible essay questions and terms that will be on the exam a week before the exam. If you need to take any history class, take him! I highly recommend!!

Easily the best history professor at this school. He will pick apart your papers to allow you to fully learn from your mistakes and has 0 multiple choice tests. Always attend class and read the material and you will enjoy his class as much as I did. He is always open to meeting with students to discuss pretty much anything.

Dr. Thompson is a good professor. You really have to study for his test and take good notes. On the first test I received a 53, but on the second one I got a 90. He is extremely helpful if you go to his office. You have to put forth a lot of effort or be super smart in history. He does have an interesting sense of humor. Over all, GOOD CLASS! TAKE

Dr. Thompson (at least in this class) expects students to remember a large volume of information, and his grading of papers and tests reflects that expectation. He is not "easy," but he is a very good teacher. I've learned a great deal; he brings the subject matter to life. I would gladly take him again, understanding that nothing is free with him.

He has a dry and cynical sense of humor that may not be fore everyone but he's literally one of the best, fairest, and most helpful professors. Dr. Thompson is great and the review made on 12/21/10 is hilarious. Dr. Thompson? Acting tough and gangster? Did you come to class high?

One of my favorite history professors at UNCP. Tests aren't difficult if you take notes/listen. Makes you work for your grade but is fair. Dry, honest, and cynical sense of humor can be off putting to some. Def. one of the more approachable profs. in the HST dept and VERY helpful if you'll just ask. Rec. his Rev. War class if you need upper HST.

He made me so sleepy I would nod off and it was so embarrassing. I had to drop his class twice because I kept almost falling out of my chair each time I attempted NC history. He tries to act all tough and gangster the first few weeks. Its like he wants you to have no confidence in passing his class. He has no soul!

Comfusing. He never went by what was in the book so the book was useless. Very boring. All you do is take notes based off of what he said. Test are hard! first day of class he tells you the class sucks and to get out of it if history is hard for you.i failed every test BUT after a meeting with him he helped me SO MUCH with studying for the final. without his help i would have failed, i recommend meeting with him once a week and he will help you and you will make very good grades on test

I've had Dr. Thompson for three history classes and is a great professor. He won't give anything u have to earn it, but he will help u in any possible. 99% of his test come from his lectures. He grades essays & paper hard but fair. If u have any problems he will help u. Come to class and do well on his papers and u should do well in his class.

I liked the class, it was interesting & we had fun. Tests were HARD. totally out of lecture notes.if you can memorize the notes, then you will ace the tests. Not an easy class. He's great though, will see you outside of class to help you.
