Dont count on her to help you outside of class. Huge hypocrite. Non-clear grading rubric and when you have a question about it they will send you straight to pilot (after it didnt help the first time). Makes her opinions known. Will never get a straight answer. Shouldnt put all the blame on her, TA never answered one of my many questions

Has a very different approach to teaching. She relies heavily on Pilot for her assignments and likes to assign a metric ton of reading. Her lectures are a challenging to keep up with, and it seems like she doesn't necessarily like the textbook given. Students had a hard time finding her specific textbook, and tends to go off on tangents a lot.

Dr. Durr was one of my favorite instructors. She expects a lot from her students, but that is because she wants them to learn rather than just slide by for class credit. She is an amazing women who cares a lot, but also has a wicked sense of humor. Really enjoyed her class.

Dr. Marlese Durr is a respected professor and professional in the sociological community. Her lectures were fast paced and text heavy. Weekly quizzes and long exams made it so that knowing the material was a must. We read Alice Goffman's On the Run as well as the text book, both were necessary to pass. She's a hard teacher, but fun and sweet.

I took her as an undergrad student. Made me work for my grade. I am proud that she was as tough on me as she was. When I got to grad school things were so much simpler because I expected strong professors like her. I brag about her to my children saying I pestered and persevered she saw something in me and pulled it out. thank you Dr. Durr

Dr. Durr is cool. She just wants us to actually work for our grades, she can be a little confusing and change stuff but I think shes fun. READ though, even if you did read she thinks you didnt lol i enjoyed the class though and im taking her again. Everyone thinks differently though, you gotta learn for yourself.

She reads straight from slides for lectures. She assigns a large amount of reading and puts people on the spot. Even if you read she can, and usually will, make you feel dumb. The exams are tough and you don't get enough time. The paper is worth 51% of your grade and she discusses it maybe once which is ridiculous. Never again.

I took Urban Sociology with Dr. Durrell and it was horrible. I absolutely hated going to that class. I work hard in all of my classes but this class was too tough. She continuously made us aware that she didn't care about us or our grades. She read off of her slides all class and if you missed anything or needed clarity she would tell you too bad.

Dr.Durr is the worst teacher i've ever had. she never showed up to class, even changed the time of our final the night before on a whim because she didn't want to come in early. be expected to work hard, read a lot, and be put on the spot. She expects a lot, yet never shows to class herself. still got an A, but if you can avoid her, do so.

I took her Soc 306 class and I am currently taking Soc. of work with her. She expects quite a bit but she is fair. Pretty funny as well. If you are lazy then you will not do well, but this is college so get over it. The ones who say she is terrible can not even spell, which is probably why they did terrible and did not like the class. Just try.

Was 5-20 min. late to each class & never held class for the full time, stating she did not care. Does not return emails or keep posted office hours. Got off topic during lecture often. Class content was really Sex Ed., but was advertised as Sociology of HIV/AIDS. Generally treated students as children. Did not understand basic Sociology terms.

Yes, Dr. Durr was tough, but ask any of her previous students (even 5 years later) and they almost always say that they remember the vast majority of the lectures. She was tough, but fair. I truly believe she was one of the best teachers I ever had.

These comments are rough. I saw the ones before I took her and was cautious. There are 3 tests and a group project. Just study and help with project and you'll be fine. I got a B. She's very helpful and understanding, but make time for class.

Overall she was nice. Her bark was bigger than her bite. She actually made me laugh quite a bit. But she did show up late to class A LOT always with an excuse, but she also didn't care if you came in late. Her expectations were very unclear at times and the syllabus doesn't help much.

After spending six years at Wright State, earning a bachelors and masters degree, I can unequivocally state that Marlese Durr was the work professor at Wright State. She missed the first week of class for some unknown reason and she would only lecture two of the three classes a week. The class and the prof were both jokes.
