Comment:

Made art history pretty fun and a little bit less tedious. Genuinely wants you to learn, and not just take notes. Doesn't like grading assignments, so don't go too far over word counts. Midterm and papers were easy and had pretty lax grading. Exam killed us all, make sure you study. Always available with email or office hours.

very intelligent and inspirational woman. I learned so much about different historical writings on photography, and was inspired by many of the readings. The course requires a lot of reading, but it is well worth it. one of my favourite professors at Ryerson.

Marta is awesome. She is the only clever Prof in Ryerson. It is too bad that she teaches in such a dumb university. In her class there is strong focus on readings which makes the course very engaging. At the end you will know why the course is organized in such a way because you read all the readings in dept. And at the end you learn not earn marks

this is another example of a teacher whose class is underappreciated by snobby film majors who think they don't need the course. in the end, their films are going to be devoid of any interesting asthetics. this course should be taken by anyone who calls themselves an image arts major. marta is adorable.

I thought she was great...the people who hated her were the ones who were bitter about having to take the class in the first place. She knew what she was talking about, she was clear, and she was fair. She never contradicted herself like Iain does in the review. Great class.

runs her lecture like a tutorial, trying to engage students and have them come up with the answers. this technique fails to help me, as we end up sitting listening to wrong answers all day. eventually she'll give you the right answer, and at least she gets SOME interaction, but it feels unfocused.

She's really smart and willing to clarify as many times as you need. The class is interesting, but really difficult for those of you who haven't taken any art history before. She's very willing to help though, and also makes the class kind of fun sometime
