He's so funny and smart. Really a great teacher, but don't take this course unless you're a history major. It has a 15-page research paper and other papers during the semester. Also, LOTS of reading, and if you don't do it, it will show. Overall awesome guy and teacher, but only for history majors.

Dr. Mulcahy is amazing! Definitley take him if you can. He's really funny and laid back, but at the same time he's a great teacher who genuienly cares about his students. I will say he is a little tough on the grading, but if you do the readings and have a clear understanding of the topic, you'll be fine.

He was the best part about my freshman year. There is no professor more caring and kind than Dr. Mulcahy. If I was still at Loyola, I'd ask him to get a beer with me.

Hands down my favorite professor ever. No one cares about their students more than Dr. Mulcahy. I had him for messina and he was a great welcome to Loyola. He really makes every student feel important. You have to do the readings to do well but nothing is hard to understand and he's very helpful. He is the embodiment of a perfect Loyola professor.

Really regret not taking his class until senior year. Awesome professor, learned a lot of useful writing tips from him. The main paper (biography of a soldier) is intensive and requires a lot of outside research, but in the end it was a great project and rewarding once it was done. He's also a lot of fun and makes lectures interesting and fun

Dr. Mulcahy is the best history teacher/professor I ever had. I had him for Messina so our class was discussion based. Make sure you do all of the readings and participate during class. Go to him in office hours to look over your papers, it helps tremendously. What you put into his class is what you will get out of it!

Loved Dr. Mulcahy. Not a history fan but he made it interesting. Had him first thing in the morning but his energy and enthusiasm kept me alert. Lots of reading, but benefitted from this class.

He definitely knows what he's talking about and he really gets into so his lectures are fantastic. He's really sarcastic and enthusiastic with Chandler Bing-esque jokes which makes for some fun classes. There's a lot of reading but fun assignments!

Such a good teacher. Makes history really interesting. Funny guy, in no way a boring class. big paper throughout the year. One or two pop quizzes. One test and a final. and he doesn't make you buy a ton of books. highly recommend

Thought that the material was going to be more military based... too many mundane details. Left-wing liberal guy that gets offended if you have a position different than his, but a nice guy nevertheless. Very helpful and class was relatively easy. Not the best teacher but good.

I still cant believe all the people that like this teacher. They are clearly the people who were busy sucking up in my class. Matt favors those who raise their hands 50 times in one class and sit in the front row with their eyes glued to him. He is a jerk to everyone else. He is so boring that its unbearable. Promotes teacher kissa**ing.

Here's a guy who knows his stuff. He can come across as "better than thou" but once you get past his quirks, he is one of the best teachers at Loyola. I learned so much that I haven't forgotten, while other profs have slipped from my memory. Fun to just chill with, talk history and politics and life.

Took Peoples of Early America sophomore year and was not looking forward to it, but Mulcahy made it the best class I ever took. If I had to miss class I was actually mad. He makes it hard to get an A but also hard to do really poor. Very easy going and approachable...not too bad on the eyes either. I recommended his class to everyone I know.

This guy loves history... almost too much. But if you participate and read (or skim) the assignments, he will realize who works hard and who doesn't, and has a bias towards hard workers. Tests aren't bad if you go to class and take solid notes. Overall, for upper level, you could do a WHOLE lot worse.
