Comment:

Honestly, Merv is a great prof. Clearly breaks down concepts and makes everything clear. However, there are 2 midterms and a final exam. The two midterms come straight out of the lectures and the book. But the final exam is absolutely brutal. Nothing can prepare you for that. I did well on both midterms, but the final tanked my mark by over 15%.

Comment:

Both midterms were super easy, (questions came straight from lecture, some from textbook that he doesn't talk about in class). The exam, however, was super difficult and nothing like the midterms, made my mark drop a lot. Labs are easy marks!

Comment:

One of the best professors in the department. Super patient and helpful. The only thing I feel he should do is make the labs in his 3 classes I took with him have more weight in our mark. You should keep up with readings as they pile on quick and definitely do the tests and not skip them if you can. The finals he gives tend to be far harder.

Merv was the greatest prof I had at York. I graduated a while ago but still remember Merv's life lessons and engaging lecture style. By reading this you might think I did well in his classes. I did NOT! My university transcript has 3 C+'s on it, every one of them from Merv's classes. I'm a hard worker but just couldn't "get" his exams, which sucked

Amazing prof. His lectures are always interesting even though the material is dry. He genuinely cares and gives many opportunities to do well. As long as you attend lectures and read the book you'll do fine.

Overall, he is a good prof. I went during his office... he really cares about his students and he is very understanding. Midterms are fair but final exam was DIFFICULT because it was a bit more applied compared to the midterms. Make sure to study the labs thoroughly and attend ALL lectures. He is very funny and makes the lecture very interesting!

jesus christ never studied SO much for a course in my entire life to end up with C+. I legit read every single page of the 251-page book , did all of the 10 labs, the 3% bonus mark, attended every lecture! but that final exam was messed up. Great professor though, just wish he could make the final manageable life is too short.

Great prof. Literally, go to class. Also, final exam was SO HARD. So, study for it. He's super funny, super engaging, and reasonable with his testing. Overall, study for the course and do all the labs for a better mark.

Great Prof. He is very engaging and cares about his students. Go to lectures and read the textbook - you'll do fine. BE SKEPTICAL #GOALOFCOURSE - some things you learn will be new some may be repeated from other courses and you'll finally understand some of it ... take a course with him, he is a real gem :D xD

Prof's great at making the course enjoyable with such "dry, stale" material to learn. His tests are derived from a style you either get or you don't - "Hit or miss." I personally found his tests fair, others didn't. Overall, decent professor. Although he is an above average lecturer, the trade-off is his testing style, as mentioned, subjective.

merv is great and is the only lecturer/prof who I thought did more than just read off the textbook. you wont fall asleep in lecture. as hes up and engaging probabaly due to the fact of his infamous morning workouts. great prof would def take again. let me transfer my questions over on the exam when time was out. if he wasnt nice i would of got a 0

I hate this class and the labs are not explained during class, the lab tutorial leader of mine does not even help she's so rude. He should explain the labs in class instead about talking on how bad the FDA and drug companies are.

Merv's great. He truly cares about his students and them succeeding. He's an engaging lecturer that gets to the point and describes everything clearly with a sense of humour. Final exams in both classes are a little more applied and difficult.

Amazing! One of the best professors at York! If you attend class, or at least listen to it online you can definitely do well. He is very clear when he lectures and is absolutely willing to answer any questions you may have. Merv is just an amazing person ! You'll be lucky to be in his class!

Also had him in 2049 & 2050. He clearly applies his work to the course in grading students. Great flexibility on how would you like to perform in his class. Gives you chance to get the highest mark you can get . If you do well in the final(with all labs attended) he will give you a boost.
