Dr. Angel personally is a nice person if you come talk to him 1-on-1. However, do expect plenty of assignments to be done. He will cram all the information from chapters into short periods. there are 19 online quizzes, 3 notebook checks (if you take the lab with him), 3-essay based exams, no study-guides given, grades tough, 13 discussion threads.

Professor Angell is very passionate about what he teaches, and sometimes forgets that most of us are not majoring in this. He is very kind, and always answers questions but the workload is overwhelming and the tests are all short answers.

If you take this class expect to work. There are constant discussion boards and quizzes, and all of his exams are short essay. He talks so fast in lecture so they are not helpful. It's finals week next week. I have 5 discussion boards to do, 5 quizzes, and a lab practical to do within the week. Then his lecture exam. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM

If I could rate him a 0 out of 5 I would. I warn you now, If you can take this class anywhere else do it. He will speed through the lecture slides or negate some all together. Likes to over complicating concepts- quoted saying "to make things more complicated, because thats what i do best..." Doesn't take student questions and concerns seriously.

If you need structure do not take this class. Professors organizational skills are subpar. The due dates are frequently chnged. Lectures fast paced and content heavy. Quizzes test you on the small details instead of general concepts- I feel like Im looking for a needle in a haystack. Unhelpful at simplifying concepts when asking for clarification

Syllabus is misleading, dates are constantly changed. Students are flooded with 5+ chapters of information to retain for 1 test. Information on quizzes are based of off the book, and supplementary videos he posts (however 1/2 the class cant access). Makes information too complex for students who do not have prior knowledge. Would not take again.

Almost dropped this class purely based on how unhelpful Dr. Angell was and how difficult he made the class. Quizzes based on the book, essay exams on 5+ chapters at a time, and grades hard. Unwilling to give study guides for exams and expects you to have extensive knowledge of the subject prior to this class. Do not take this class with him.

Expects a high level of background knowledge in microbiology and goes into unnecessary depth on the subject. Lectures a mile a minute and expects you to retain the information of 5-7 chapters per test. Doesn't give enough time for essay exams, and homework only consists of time consuming discussions and quizzes. Avoid this professor if you can

Hardest class ever period, next to Comparative Anatomy. Powerpoint lectures and the pace is very fast. Read the book before coming to class the lectures are nicely paired. You must study 3x more than anything else but it will be rewarding in the end and grades refect your effort even though it will feel like your failing all semester.

Tough, but fair. He adjusted the course some when people struggled. Class moves fast. Take notes on everything during lecture and study from those. What he goes over in class is a better indicator of what'll be on the test than ppt slides. Focus on vocab, and make sure you study regularly. COASTING WILL NOT WORK. Work hard and you'll learn a lot.

If you have to take BIO328 TAKE IT ANYWHERE BUT EMU. This was truly one of the WORST classes I have taken in my 3 years due to Dr. Angell. He is very unwilling to budge if he has his mind on something, exams don't have enough time to complete the essays very well, and he expects you to come in with high knowledge of Microbiology.

Very, very difficult professor. Took his online lecture, and lab on campus. His midterm and final were unbelievably difficult, and even when the entire class told him they couldn't finish with the time given, he wouldn't budge. He is a very kind person, but when it comes to his class I would stay away if you want a high grade.

Wouldn't recommend. He can be very condescending, and half the time that he asks you questions, you are left more confused than before you asked the question. I find that I understand little from him, and have to go back and read the book to understand his lectureson (not normally the case). Stay as a far away as possible, and you won't regret it.

He definitely knows a lot bout microbiology. However, he doesn't know how to translate that information to his students. He talks way too fast and his power points in class don't always match what he posts on Canvas. The lectures where useless because I learned more from readying the book. Unfortunately, he marks off points if you miss lecture.

Professor Angell just is so knowledgeable in the subject that he forgets his students know nothing about microbiology. He does give information in his lectures, but it does not really match the material on the tests, it more matches the material on the quizzes. My advice: read the book over and over again until your brain hurts.

Dr. Angell is definitely a tough teacher! I was warned about him but I actually really enjoyed having him as an instructor. Suggestions for success: (1) sit front & center! (2) Record lecture and listen again at home. (3) Attend lecture and take REALLY good notes. (4) Don't play on fbook or work on stuff for other classes or you will not do well.

I'm a nursing major and they "warned" us about not taking micro at EMU and I should have listened. I have never struggled so much in a science class in my life. Angell lectured super fast over a lot of material. His quiz questions were too detailed and his tests were hard. I don't recommend taking it with him. He expects so much from his students.

His lectures are engaging and not boring at all. but he is a hard grader. His tests are hard and he expects too much from his students. Attendance is required and he sometimes has a sign-in sheet for lecture. he gives a lot of info besides the slides, so going to lecture is a good idea. he never answers his emails though.

While most of the students have rated Dr Angell on General Micro, I had him for Virology, a Graduate course. He gave lectures from powerpoints, however he often strayed from the material written down. It is expected in grad school that you learn more information than is written. Great Graduate Course professor.

As a nursing major (accepted in the program) I have never gotten below a B+ . I ended up failing this class, have to retake it somewhere else, and have to temporarily stop my program. This guy is so condescending and makes up questions that are much harder and beyond the level of an "Intro" to Microbiology class. Take at a community college!
