Very engaging and interesting lecturer, with great insights and memorable anecdotes. He is a very demanding marker, however, but he is accessible outside of class time and very helpful. He'll make you laugh, think, lose a bit of sleep, and get inspired. I strongly reccomend taking one of his classes.

Bristol is THE best English prof at Mcgill. He is brilliant! By far the most engaging lecturer I have ever come across in any subject. The show he puts on is fabulous. However he is very approachable and down to earth. He genuinly cares about his students and is always available for help. Go to his office hours, it will prove invaluable!

Bristol is one of the best professors at McGill. He loves what he teaches, and teaches what he believes in. A great man and a grand mind. Made me love english lit again - in a way that will last.

Best teacher I had at McGill. The only one who encouraged me to try harder. He believes in positive reinforcement, and constructive and valuable criticism. It's hard to make Shakespeare interesting in 2005, but Bristol succeeds.

Best teacher in the humanities. Only teacher with something to teach. Aims to educate the students, and not make irrelevant arguments about old books. Actually believes in and implements liberal education. He's even an ambivalent grader.

Personally, I found his classes dead boring. Bristol is, however, one of the nicest people I met at McGill. As the other person said, he has a giant heart of gold. He really goes out of his way for students but doesn't put up with any B.S.

Bristol is one of the dept's dinosaurs, and I mean that in a good way. He's been around FOREVER. What's amazing about him is that he keeps his classes interesting. He doesn't suck up to students like some of the younger profs. He takes charge.

As a philosophy major, I found it a fluff course. He saw my potential when I wasn't giving my best and he made it very clear that I wasn't working. I respect him for that and think that 317 is a good superficial intro to philosophy for lit. majors. He's good for at least one crass joke per class.

re:previous comments. Get off the crack. Bristol can't tolerate suck-ups. Course content is intellectually meaty, and, furthermore, the show he puts on is pretty damn entertaining. That's why all those people show up when they don't need to to pass the course. We love you Papa Bristol!!!
