Comment:

I graduated and still think about how amazing of a professor Dr. Cann was. Challenging, but great teacher who really pushed his students to the next level. His door was always open and he devoted himself 100% to his students. I am in a PhD program for organic chemistry- he is the one who sparked my interest in the subject. I learned a lot from him.

Comment:

I would HIGHLY recommend taking Cann to incoming freshman with a prior background in Chemistry. Many struggled, but this class is honestly an easy A for those who could keep up with an AP Chem course in high school. 3 exams and a cumulative final; all curved. Teaches from the text, presents the material very well, and always offers extra help.

Comment:

He is definitely not as bad as people make him out to be. His tests are all the same format so it's easy to get used to how he asks his questions. It's very hard to get an A but a doable B+A- if you do the work as it comes and don't wait til the week before. Takes attendance but why would you skip organic anyway if you want to pass?

If you want to actually learn organic, then take his class. His teaching style and exams set you up great for what's to come. Definitely be ready to work but he is one of the greatest teachers I had, truly cares for all his students, and very fair. Always around to answer questions and a very fun guy

I took this class because I needed a science elective. Everyone on hear is lying, he is not a good teacher. He goes off on global warming tangents and his material to review for the test is never on the test. Don't waste your time

I had every chemistry teacher at this school and he was by far the best. If you take Dr. Cann you are guaranteed to learn and retain the material. He is very passionate and energetic and makes learning organic fun. He is still a hard teacher but if he knows you truly worked hard he will help your grade out at the end. I seriously recommend him.

If you're not lazy, take Dr. Cann. You learn more with him than you do with any of the other teachers. He makes you work harder than students in other sections but it results in you learning and retaining the info which YOU NEED FOR THE MCAT. If you are pre-med, he really is the one to take. Don't be lazy and sign up for his section.

I had Dr. Cann for both semesters of organic. Despite what some people say, he is a GREAT teacher. He does make you do some work on your own, but his lectures are excellent and very clear. His tests are hard, always a few tricks, but they prepare you very well for the ACS exam, which is the final second semester. Take him he is worth the extra work

Dr. Cann is a good teacher and you actually learn organic with him. I would say the only problem with this class was that the exams were way too long to be completed adequately in 50 minutes. It was always such a rush. However, he is very helpful and I suggest you visit him during office hours. One of the best classes I took.

Comment:

Good but hard teacher. He does expect you to do a lot of work on your own but explains things very well and is very energetic. Some of his test questions are very tricky but he's such a good teacher and you learn so much that you should take him anyway. Highly recommend Dr. Cann.

He really made organic chemistry a wonderful experience. Very organized in how he teaches and if you KEEP UP with the work you're going to be fine. His tests are challenging but very fair. His lectures consist of giving you the "basics" and then you, as the student, need to figure out the applications to what he said. He just makes you work.

The material is very hard but he is an excellent teacher. If you are not good at picturing things three dimensionally, buy model kids to assist you on the exams. Believe me, they help. Get a tutor the first day and NEVER get behind on work. As he says the first day, everything builds on previous material so if you get behind it will be very hard

Organic is hard as hell but he makes it bearable if you do all the work and go see him when you need help. The problem sets and keeping up with the work is the way to be successful. The tests are fair although long and he always throws a few curve balls at you. Overall I had an excellent experience with Dr. Cann and my grade reflected my effort.

Very hard class. Dr. Cann is a tough teacher who expects you to work hard. Pay attention in class, do EVERY problem, get a tutor the first day, and study often. If you do all of this, you'll get at least a B in the class and maybe higher.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Cann for organic chemistry. He has a very warm personality and an old-fashioned teaching style. His exams are fair and you can get at least a B in the class if you do all the work and study hard. Although organic is difficult, he made it a good experience and believe it or not, the class was actually fun.

He's not that great of a teacher but he's helpful. I never studied my notes since they were completely useless as was everything he said in class. Follow along in the book with the problems and you'll be fine. I never payed attention since he's a confusing lecturer but kept up with the problem sets and pulled off a B+ in the class.

Cann is a tough teacher. It is possible to do well in organic but you must work really hard. You should keep up with the problem sets, pay attention, take good notes, and study every night. He's a really good teacher and he actually got me interested in the subject. Tests are very hard but if you do all the work and study, you'll be fine.

Great teacher. Makes the class fun and interesting and he has a great teaching style. The tests are nasty but at the end of the semester you get the grade you deserve. He hates slackers but if you try in his class, he'll notice you and try his best to help you out. Organic is obviously a tough class but he does his best. Expect to do a lot of work

Some people don't like him but don't listen to them- he's a great teacher. His lectures are very clear and he's always available to help. You need to do and understand the suggested problems to perform well on exams. The people who do bad do not do the work. Seriously. Just do the work and get help when you need it and you'll be FINE.
