Dr. Childs is one of the best. Attending class is very important with him - write down what he says though, and you'll do well in his class. He expects a lot from students, but if you're willing to put in the work, you'll see results. He's super friendly, interesting and very helpful outside of class for extra feedback on assignments.

I really like his dry sense of humour, not once have I been bored in his class although I note that quite a few people say he is boring, he isn't at least not in my opinion. Write down everything he says and you'll pass. You don't need a textbook as he will explain the stuff very well during class.

Pretty dry to sit through his lectures, but he definitely knows his stuff. You can learn a lot if you're able to stay awake to hear it. Not a lot of work, and a fair grader. Recommends good sources for papers so it's pretty clear what he wants you to write about.

There is no doubt that Childs is extremely knowledgeable. There is also no doubt that he is a drag to listen to. You have to have a real interest in the material in order to enjoy this clas. Myself, I dropped it half way through as I could no longer pull myself out of bed at 8:30am to sit in his class and listen to him drone on.

If he know you're trying, Dr.Childs is incredibly generous with information, book loans and feedback. Very sure of his topic, compassionate man. Narrative, amusing lectures. Good on historiography. Not a super easy marker, but I feel, a more realistic one. Rewards good work. If you actually like history, take his classes!!

A hard marker but also a very intelligent and nice person. He is passionate about British history and it comes across in his classes. You may not get the greatest mark but you'll definately learn something.

if you don't like his class then you need to switch your major. his lectures are excellent. i don't know if he's helpful cuz i just showed up, took notes, and passed. doesn't try to get you to like him or make history more interesting. just a solid lecture.

Good prof and willing to help students. He has an incredible depth of knowledge. Alot of people I've spoken to have said they find his lectures to be very dry and boring; I disagree with this, but I was interested in the subject matter. Not pushover but not an extreemly hard marker either. Sucks that he is on sabatical for Fall 2005.

actually, i've had him for a total of 4 classes. i found him to be extremely knowledgable on the subject matter, interesting, amusing, and a more than fair marker. possibly, if you think he is unfair, it's because you suck at history and don't deserve a better mark. in that case, stay away.

Perhaps the last vestige of hope for BU History with Weigert gone. Unfortunately he is taking a semester's sabbatical starting in Fall 05. Anyone who thinks his lectures are dull were quite obviously not interested in the subject matter in the first place and thus shouldn't have been in the class.

Very dull lectures, his classes are boring, do not ever take him early in the morning! As long as you want to work hard then you're okay, but if you want to slack even a little then forget about it!

My only experience with him was as the dean of humanities, in which capacity he was unhelpful, rude and uncompromising. Since he seems to be such a popular teacher, it would perhaps be wise for him to remain in that position.
