For a GE class, this isn't the easiest, but Ditmore is very helpful if you choose to take advantage of his availability. At the beginning he gave a few pop quizzes, but after about 3 I think he got sick of grading them. So mostly just papers and exams as far as assignments.

Very interesting and intellectual professor. He is really excited about his subject so it makes the class fun, even when the material is more on the esoteric side. Treats everyone equally, does not play favorites. Also, he grades fairly. Overall, a great graduate professor.

Took him for 3 of my Great Books classes and was really upset when he went on sabbatical during my 4th and ruined my streak. Tries to sit back and let the class lead discussion, so how good class is depends on your classmates. You have to be a good writer to do well, but once you understand what he wants, you'll do fine.

One of my favorite people ever. Both challenging and laid-back. Really cares about students and VERY accessible. As far as I can tell, assigns lower amounts of reading than other Great Books profs. As far as papers, you can't turn in crap to him and get away with it, but he appreciates creativity where appropriate. Lots of fun tangents in class!

He's pretty laid-back for a Great Books professor, and classes feel more like conversations than formal discussions, which I enjoy. He may not be as cool as Dr. Marshall, but he's really close.

very good teacher who absolutely LOVES what he does. classes are very relaxed and you can easily get him off on a tangent. participation is a must. but reading your book isnt always necessary. simply listen to his ideas and you can give a fairly educated response without even reading. he is extremely kind and caring. he will do anything to help!

Professor Ditmore chooses an interesting array of literature and has a genuine interest in engaging students in discussion of the material. He stays abreast of current events and the best discussions are the ones that have absolutely nothing to do with anything. He's a fair grader, gives clear guidelines for tests and is really just a nice guy.

Very kind and intelligent man. In terms of class, he assigns alot more reading than other professors. Also, classroom discussions literally put me to sleep for the first 2 months and I was driven to Red Bull to stay awake for the final month. End not: kind person, not intellectually stimulating

Kinda hard, but if you're confident with your writing, you'll be fine. Enjoyable when off-topic, if you want the on-topic discussions to be interesting, you have to make it that way yourself. He is easily reached outside of class for assistance, if you want. Very knowledgable.

A lot of boring reading (American Lit b4 Civil War). He tends to favor those who already have previous knowledge about the subject (why would they take the class if they did?) and teaches it as if it were required for a major rather than a G.E. He only gives positive comments even on crappy papers, so you have no idea where to improve.

I liked this class. If you're a good writer you'll do fine and he's a nice guy. The best part is taking the first 45min to an hour getting him off topic so we don't talk about the book until the end of class. Which is good cause the discussions get pretty boring. But when he's not talking about the books, he's pretty interesting.

Interesting man. Discussion can be a little dry at times, but he is full of information. There is lots of freedom on papers, but it's hard to figure out what he's looking for when he grades. Overall, a good prof.

By far one of my favorite professors at Pepperdine!! He took not-so-interesting literature, and did his best to make it somewhat exciting for us. Most importantly, he truly cares about his students! I would love to have him for another class!

He is a real caring teacher. He loves the material and really wants you to learn it. Sometimes his lectures get boring but it could have been the material (Puritan literature isn't very exciting). He does a lot of discussions.
