Professor MacDonald is an incredibly smart person. He articulates this knowledge very well and in a captivating way. I leave class every day inspired and thinking deeply about subject matter of the class. I like that the class has no technology and its just Prof MacDonald's dialogue with us. Would highly recommend!

MM is the real deal. He possesses all the qualities of a great educator: he's agile, funny, kind, and his content knowledge is deep and applicative. I've taken five separate courses with him over the years (both Undergraduate and Graduate) and now, as an alumnus, I draw upon the material he's taught me on a daily basis. Enrol NOW!

He knows his material qutie well. However, I think he needs to improve on putting more care into his lectures and classes. Prof of such brilliance can pull off way better lectures than hes delivering now. Cancelling classes on random days somewhat indicate how seriously he takes the first year students.

MM is the "consummate orator" in English at UW. Check out his work -- he's brilliant and he has a bright academic future. Some of the mechanics of his class don't really work, but there is such a vast richness in the material that it really doesn't matter. Too bad he doesn't allow laptops in this class because I would have typed out every word.

I can't say enough good things about this prof. His lectures are always scintillating. In all my years at UW I've never seen another lecturer with his oratorical brilliance. He obviously has a passion for what he teaches. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes. He's marvellous.

This prof changed me. I've changed. He's opened my eyes. He's a can opener. And I'm the canned beans. Green beans in a can. His eyes are green, so dreamy. Like a field of lush grass that streches out to a backdrop of mountains approaching the Caspian Sea. Peace and Love.

One of the few profs who awards individuals who take risks. If you're an out of the box thinker you'll love MacDonald. As mentioned before if you strong support the right-wing he might try to take you down a notch, but in general he is a fun, intelligent, and great teacher. He also has awesome taste in music.

This guy has a weird personality and terrible one-on-one communication skills, and like someone else said below, he leaves mean and nasty comments on your paper if he doesn?t like you for whatever reason. Don?t say anything contradictory or critical about any of his ideas. Just nod your head and repeat what he says, and you?ll be fine...

Great class. The weekly responses are pretty easy and they just require you to read from the course pack - they're not even marked, just completion marks. The essays are not too bad and he's not really that hard of a marker. Hard to read his writing but if you just listen to him then you won't have any problems.

He's great, I feel like I've learned so much from his lectures and assignments. He really helps you to continue to improve. He constructed the two courses very well, to guide understanding and so we could gradually become more competent. Also very funny! I highly recomend him.
