A lot of classes in the sports rec major don't require much work. This is not one of them. This will cause culture shock for some students. Do your homework and seek out Dr. Riordan during office hours. He really wants you to learn the material.

If you go to class and at least attempt the homework, you won't have a problem. Some of the concepts are just hard to grasp, which isn't his fault. He does a good job explaining things in class. We go over homework problems in class and he will answer any questions you have. 3 exams and about 8 "chapter" quizzes, also a couple random assignments.

I knew accounting was going to be hard but he was honestly the worst professor I have ever taken at JMU and now I have to retake the class. If you don't want to teach yourself then do not take him. every class he just goes over book problems and NEVER lectures...

I knew going into accounting that it was going to be difficult. He is a nice person but unless you think like him or are good at accounting and it comes easily then it will be hard for you. I had a really difficulty time barely making a C and the quizzes don't really help you that much. VERY test heavy and multiple choice is hard. Have fun.

Riordan is the man. No Power points, homework every class. Pay attention and take solid notes, and you'll be fine. Visit office hours. Small curves on each tests. Read the book, you probably can't attain a B without reading because he asks some Q's straight form ther. Hard class no matter who you take, but feel lucky if you get him for Intermediate

Overall, he was a great professor! He was extremely hard, but you learned a lot. There were 3 exams, final, and 7 or so quizzes (if you only miss two classes the lowest score is dropped) . Read the book, do the homework, go to class and you will do fine. Also, I had a separate notebook for notes and homework and that helped with organization.

One of the tougher professors I've had, but sill pretty good. Heavy work load with Homework every night, quizzes in class and 5 exams. YOU NEED YOUR BOOK, he takes attendance based on whether or not you have it. Beyond all this, I still feel like I learned something. Take him, but be ready to work.

He is a really nice guy and really great at explaining everything. His tests make up your grade and they are extremely tricky!If you are taking a hard semester do not take him. He is NOT easy but you will definitely understand the material and learn a lot!

Maybe I didn't have a good experience with Riordan because Accounting is not for me. However, he was rarely in a good mood and never enthusiastic about the course. Homework everyday but it is not graded. The whole class is spent going over the homework, and you have quizzes nearly every class. If accounting isn't your thing, find someone else!

Professor Riordan is definitely a hard teacher but as confusing as accounting was to me he made it pretty clear, you do hw ahead of time and he goes over it in detail in class and we have about 11-13 quizzes in class (he drops one) and 3 exams, if you keep up the chapters you will be fine and if you can sit in the front ( trust me!)

it might be worth waiting a semester to take this course for another professor. He refuses to help us with mistakes, an essential part of mastering actg. got an A with GABBIN in 343. GABBIN OF ALL PEOPLE! got a D+ with this guy since he refused to help me with leases. if gabbin or baril are teaching 344, TAKE IT RIGHT AWAY.
