Michael is the man. I took his intro shakespeare my freshman year, and it is why I majored in Literature. He is an excellent lecturer, keeping the class thrilling even when you're reading plays that you've read hundreds of times before. Even outside of class, Michael has proven to be a great influence. My only bug is his repeatedly bugging me about how I smoke. Geez.

I worked with Michael during the summer for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, where is a dramaturge. He is incredibly insightful and informative. The productions would not be as strong without his knowledge!

Brilliant. Engaged. Articulate. Plus, he has little white hair fluffs that come off the side of his head like wings. And when he gets excited, the wings vibrate. First class

Comment:
warren is a pompous old windbag who thinks his opinion is the final authority on anything to do with shakespeare. he belittled questions and generally was arrogant, but all that said, he taught me quite a bit of shakespeare. not as cool as he's made out to be.

Comment:
Michael Warren does not encourage students to analyze the plays. His lectures are basically plot summary. He is also kind of arrogant. But overall, the class was very imformative. We read plays that most people haven't read or don't know about.

This man is my hero. I learned more about moral choice in his Shakey class than in my philosophy courses...he's an incredibly impressive human being, and a real kick to watch and listen to.

Great teacher, although a little unusual for UCSC. He focuses on the canon and takes a more "traditional" approach to teaching. He's a great speaker and his love and expertise of the material really comes through.

I've known Michael Warren for about ten years, so this may be a slightly biased review. I would reccommend his intro to Shakespeare class to almost anyone. I'm not sure how much longer he will be teaching, though-- I think he's officially retired.

As a Shakespeare entusiast, I adore this man. He is highly knowledgeable, exceedingly coherent, and his lectures are engaging. Plus he closes his eyes when he lectures, not to mention the flailing of his arms. The workload is relatively light.

Initially very engrossing. Last half of the course seemed rushed, prof. seemed irritable. Regardless, a very knowledgable man with a passion for Shakespeare.
