I'm in my third year at York, taking his first year class, and he treats the class like we graduated preschool. If you want to ask a question in lecture, there's a 50% chance he will tell you to figure it out yourself, and a 50% chance he will answer a totally different question. Overall, he complicates material, and runs a disorganized lecture.

I agree with everyone that says he is very clear on how to get a good mark, and that he is a great professor. His lectures are amazing and compliment the textbook well. Literally just do the work he assigns and go to lecture and you will do great, no mysteries or tricks. One of the best professors at York in my opinion.

Most of the time he just sits down and talks. Had a hard time following it. He doesn't mark assignments. If you say you've completed it on the front page, you get 2/2. Doesn't give solutions to it. Had no way of knowing if my solutions were correct. A lot of people got an F on the first test.

Don't skip lectures. His tests are literally based off the things he does in lecture. For his programming assignments, you can hand in an incomplete program and still get a high mark. Show you have a good understanding of how you designed your solution in your report and follow his guidelines/coding style. HE CARES MORE ABOUT THE WRITTEN REPORT!

Next to impossible to get a bad grade in his course if you study. No coding examples really given, but the textbook babies you (even gives full class implementations for crying out loud!) I have a strong feeling that the people complaining here just didn't take it seriously or never really went to class. It was not hard to follow along and do well.

Wharton still uses a Turing machine to do all his work. He really hasn't coded anything past hello world, its evident when he teaches. I learned more about geography, history, latin, airplanes and airports than I did about data structures. Impossible assignments, 60% exam, and zero teaching.

For that course he might look easy but he has big flaw: HE DOES NOT PROVIDE A GOOD CODING EXAMPLE.Huge portion of the grade is on the final which is very scary.He rushes thru every chapter even the hardest ones giving little time to assimilate.I wish he understood that we students have other courses in the semester.

He seems very easy in class...keeps repeating things from cse 1030 which is y im scared cause he might end up not giving all the on the tests..which im pretty sure about...tells hs stories, hates people who ****late, makes fun of people alot..over all not god at all stay miless away!!!!!

If you get a bad grade in his class, you did not study. Period. This professor is one of the simplest, clearest teachers in the computer science department and he ENJOYS his work. He outlines how to do well in class from the start and he is one of the few professors who covers the basics of any course extremely well. Follow his lead, you'll do fine

Excellent prof! Enthusiastic, approachable and helpful. Compilers is a tough course but well worth the effort, most enjoyable 4th year class yet. Definitely recommend taking his class.

Tests are hard, assignments are very hard. Assignments are worth only 5% each, so if you screw up it's not a big deal. Frequently repeats things which is great for the dumb students. He does manage to make the material (data structures) fun, I can sit through a three hour class and not be bored once.

He absolutely sucks ass. If you're into made-up stuff that makes 0 sense and you will never use again in your life take his course. Before I took his course I thought "big squared" and "middle cubed" were for kindergarden-level students, Wharton teaches it in 3rd level courses. Absolute waste of time and money.

this is a MUST AVOID professor, his assignments are really hard and he's marking scheme is even worse. He teaches in class the stuff you already know in previous courses but in the exam everything is different and makes up really hard questions. You never know what to expect with this guy... GOT THAT?
