Comment:

Awesome teacher, cares about his student a lot what ever your unclear he will fix that. Had two test both open notes (essay form). Take a lot of notes but it helps when comes to the test. Annoying about attendance but if you show up you get extra credit at the end of the semester. Makes things interesting.

The best Professor I have ever had! Asks for and respects your opinion. Makes you think which most Professors can care less about. Fair grader but expects you to work hard. Wish I couod take him again.

This is the best professor I have ever had. TAKE HIM! You will learn a lot from him. You have class discussions, five summaries, one major research paper, and two quizzes. The work load is light, the classes are interesting, and he is nice. TAKE HIM!

great professor but extremely harsh with his grading. i worked really hard on this class but he just did not understand my view and took it personal. DEFINITELY A HARSH GRADER>>> thought i deserved a B- at least... but gave me a D i definitely put in alot more effort than that.

i wish i had more room to write how AWESOME WHELAN IS!! he what all teacher's need to be like! the class is extremely interesting and the workload is little. 2 small quizzes, 2 easy, interesting papers and mini-outlines. his lectures are amazing and u really leave the class feeling like u learned something. he's funny to! TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had no idea what The Study of History was going to end up being, but I'm glad I was able to get Dr. Whelan. He actually made me more interested in history. His lectures are very interesting and make you view history in a new way. He is a bit of a tough grader, BUT as long as you don't turn in trash you will do good. DO WHAT IT TAKES TO HAVE HIM!

Dr. Whelan's class was extremely interesting and very informative. The three papers aren't difficult because they're so engaging, but you have to do a good job and earn your grade. He is entertaining and one of the best professors I've had. He's also extremely helpful outside of class, especially for majors.

Dr. Whelan is one of the best profs I've had at MSU in any dept. If you need to take Hist 100 than beg, borrow, steal, etc. to get Dr. Whelan. 3 papers, some reading, mandatory attendance but the class is a real treasure. You won't regret it.

WOW what a professor and what a class. So informative and really fun and worthwhile; too bad he will no longer be teaching it. Multiple Lesson plans and a unit plan are all you are graded on, as well as attendance. I do not think any class prepared me to teach as much as this one. A truly student oriented professor!

i absolutely hate history and was afraid of this class. Professor Whelan surprised me. Most history teachers are boring and he's just opposite. He knows what he's teaching and teaches it elaborately. Does everything off slideshows so everyone can see well. Remarkeable teacher. Just two commentary essays, no final, no homework- hard to fail.

One of the best professors I've had at MSU. All you have to do is show up to class and write the 2 commentary essays. He's funny and makes history interesting. Runs class the way college should be.
