Expects a lot from you! I liked her course but the only thing that I had a problem with was how fast we went through material. She talks at an insanely rapid pace and expects you to already know most of what she is going over. Reading is heavy.

Dr. Barnello is a great professor, you have to read a lot because she gives you lots of quizzes based on the readings. But she really wants you to do well. She encourages you to come to her office hours if you have any questions and she's always willing to help. I would highly recommend her.

Dr. Barnello is really nice, but the material was way harder than expected for a 101 course. You really need to read before class and study hard for the tests. You'll be expected to memorize the entire constitution. Expect a lot of quizzes.

Dr. Barnello was a great first semester teacher to have; she really knows her stuff, yet willingly teaches intro classes. She takes her classes and students seriously, and is respectful of all students' ideas and opinions. If you take the time to read the material and participate in class, you'll learn a lot and keep your interest.

Dr. Barnello is an amazing teacher. She really has a way of making politics seem more interesting than I ever thought they were. Shes caring and understanding, but also makes you work for a good grade. I learned more than I ever imagined I could in an intro class.

Didn't like this class. She expects too much, more than other professors expect of beginning level courses. She has an outline of the main concepts she says she wants you to remember. But she gives you a whole bunch of side notes to write down that could be on the test. Her teaching style is too disorganized and ineffective for me.

Barnello is a great lady, and a great professor. But, careful. She advertises this awesome class about Congress, then makes you do a simulation where you have to be Congress and write bills and debate them for a whole half of the semester, which you don't know about until it's too late. It's more work than my senior sem, and she grades hard.

Comment:

Dr. Barnello is one of my favorite professors and is the reason why I want to take more government classes. I love how much she stresses the importance of the Constitution in her lectures. Her class made me reevaluate my beliefs and ideologies, but in a good way! I learned more than I ever thought I would for an intro class. Definitely worth taking

Dr. Barnello is the real deal. She is not only a gifted political scientist and teacher, she also shares her human side. She helped me dig into me and find what my own research interests were. Very proud to have studied with her; challenging but very fun. I have no idea why others members on RMP think she is so partisan. Didn't experience that.

She treats you like you're 5 years old never letting anyone speak out of turn or say something that might be the least bit controversial. She expects you to read a ton of material and thinks her class is the only one that matters. She gets upset when students dont talk but cuts them off when they do. She LOVES to talk about herself and her articles

Dr. Barnello is extremely passionate about the material she teaches and encourages her students to use critical thinking when it comes to evaluating our government. Her outlines are very detailed, and as long as you pay attention and take notes you will do well on her exams. I would highly recommend her!

I am a freshamn and Dr. Barnello's GOVT 101 class was actually harder than my 200 level classes, but with that being said it was definitely worth all of the work. I learned so much and I recommend taking her. She is very nice and helpful! But be prepared to memorize the constitution

Prof. Barnello is a nice woman. She is, however, EXTREMELY liberal (even though she tells you the first day of class that she won't reveal her political opinion, it is very apparent). She is not the worst teacher, but she teaches this 100-level course like it is a 300-level. Unless you are greatly anti-conservative, please do not take her!

There's some haters on this professor. She will definately make you work for an A but everything she does is fare. Read everything assigned, if not twice. Show her a couple of your journal entries, she can be real helpful in getting you in the right direction. I didn't get the liberal vibe as much as my peers... Very Nice lady

Professor Barnello is a great professor and teaches very clearly but she is a horrible grader and extremely subjective. I worked extremely hard in her class especially considering it was a 101 level course. I was shocked when I found that my final grade was a C+. It felt like I was taking a 300 level course. I would not take her again.

She is very liberal, and LOVES politics. Kinda hard grader, but really nice. Will work with you, especially if she sees you trying. Got an F on my first test, and a A- on the second cause I went and saw her. NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE TO [LOOSELY] MEMORIZE THE CONSTITUTION.
