Dr. Mart is one of the most passionate professors I had at my time at Berks. She is knowledgeable and willing to help you if you reach out. This is a 400 level course and she expects you to do the readings. Class time is based on discussions and the grades on analytical papers. Do the readings and take the course work seriously and you will do fine

I was nervous going into this class because I've heard awful things about her, but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. She is a cool professor if you are a mature adult and take the class and work seriously. She loves what she teaches and I liked her a lot.

Dr. Mart can come off as a person with an attitude but she's actually really nice if you respect her and show interest in the material.

If you see her name on your schedule, do everything you possibly can to swap courses! She thinks everyone loves history and if you don't love it as much as her, you fail. I dropped the course. My owest grade otherwise is a 97%. This course is a pain.

She expects an unreasonable amount of effort for this sub 100-level course. Mart teaches this class like a 400-level course. Expect to memorize every detail. Definitely not worth it unless you are a History major. I love history but she made the content extremely boring.

Did all the readings & homework; took 12 pages of notes for one section and got 0/5 on first T/F pop quiz (took skill to go 0/5 on T/F lol). Dropped class; 10+ hours/wk. on this 3 credit gen ed was good enough to get me a 0% on a quiz we were told wasn't meant to be stressful. And I had a 4.85 GPA in HS and am passing all other classes with A's.

It is a lot of work for a gen ed, so if it's not required for your major, I wouldn't recommend it. Her tests can be tricky, but they're do-able. Just write down everything she says and participate A LOT in discussions and you should be good. I only read like 2 book chapters and only did half of the homework assignments and still did really well.

You have to know about daily life and skip over major events like wars. You must often know her opinions she gives you in class as well.

I took this class as a gh and had more work in this class than in one of my classes for my major. Her lectures are long and she talks very fast so it is hard to get down all information. Homework was not graded and took an excessive amount of time. The questions on tests and quizzes were very in depth and difficult to answer.

Her teaching style didn't sit with me and I had to use a late drop because I understood nothing! Even if you do the reading, most of the time you'll be hopelessly lost, and if you don't remember exact names and dates of every organization and person mentioned good luck on the tests. Homework amt is unbelievable, we had a quiz almost every class.

Took this class as a general education class but ended up regretting it. The amount of work was unbelievable, I spent most of my time this semester on this class only. Test are essays in which you have to remember every date and every name. Do not take her class.

Outrageous amounts of homework, spent upwards of 5 hours a week just writing responses to homework, which didn't count for your grade. Pop quizzes where difficult with the tests being harder, don't believe I got anything better than a C on any assignment, ended up dropping the class, rather have a WN, than a F.

Absolutely unreasonable amount of work for a 1 credit class. Had to work way too hard to get an A- in a first year seminar. I spent more work on this than my regular course load.

Absolute worst professor I ever had at the campus. For a lower level course it is ridiculously hard. I was taking the class for a general ed credit and I wound up using a late drop because I was just so frustrated with the way the course was taught and all the work for a class that I didn't even need for my major.

When I took this class i was interested in the history and culture of the Middle East region, but the class is poorly organized and its very hard to study what material for the test. Its ho it was taught was the factor that led me to dislike this class. In history class i don't want to put in little study groups I want the crystal clear facts.

Great teacher that brings the student into facets often not learned about in american history. People who say she dosnt talk about "big events" is because you already learded about them silly. Learning the ways in which american life changed as a result is much more rewarding. Just read the textbook and show up to class and youll get an A.
