She gets annoyed when students try to clarify on her expectations for assignments. Does not provide feedback on assignments. Relied heavily on discussion boards and group presentations to teach for her.

She has pretty unclear expectations for assignments, and when students get it wrong she will stand up there and borderline insult everyone for not understanding. she keeps insisting that we have to "avoid summarizing" but if we dont summarize a little bit for context she says we are "too vague, could literally be talking about anything"...

Owen is a pretty chill prof. She definitely cares about her students who show interest in the field. Dis is part of WGS so expect a lot of feminist theory and heavy reading. Relies a lot on class discussion or the online discussion board for participation marks. Not a hard class if you're good at papers.

Comment:
Does minimal teaching and lecturing. Content is learned by reading two relatively easy texts + presentations by students. Very unclear about assignments and when asked to clarify, she gets mad and dismisses the question. She judgmental for someone who is "progressive" in this field. Wants a critical analysis of what you think in assignments. Easy A

Just a heads up, disability studies is WITHIN the WGS dept. Expect to learn feminist theory. As for her teaching style, shes fine. Relies a lot on group discussion and there's a lot of different materials she uses. Overall, shes a nice lady - a bit scatterbrained for me though.

Comment:
Avoid this prof at all costs. Her material and expectations are unclear. She is extremely harsh and fussy about the smallest errors on your paper. Her criticism is very offensive. She should not have a career in the teaching field. She completely fails at teaching! She also focuses her material on women studies rather than disability studies.

Comment:
For a course on disability it was focused more on women's studies than disability. As for course work, weekly reading reflections are mandatory. However, marking expectations are unclear. For a reflection paper, it felt as though my thoughts were being critiqued for not agreeing with the prof's views. I would not take another class with this prof

By far the worst prof I've had so far. She's a hard marker for someone who doesn't really lecture in class, she basically just asks her students what they found interesting. She's very unorganized and almost always late for lectures. She tends to shut down someone's opinion if it doesn't coincide with hers. Aviod any class that she teaches.

Very disorganized. The entire class was based on group discussions. We would spend half of the class doing a discussion about textbook readings and then the other half watching a movie/video. I didn't learn much in this class... but easy A.

Michelle Owen was so much fun to have as a prof for this course. This course was a new course and she made it amazing and entertaining! She gives participation marks so make sure she knows your name, but its very easy to give your opinions in class! Super fun and educational course and great professor!

Oof, I'm not fond of this prof. She is a very tough grader yet not very organized. Michelle is a very nice person and is very passionate in her field but is also very opinionated and often demeans your opinions if they do not coincide with hers. She assigns a fair amount of work, a lot of reading but is somewhat lenient and understanding with time.

She's the worst professor I've had this year. Don't waste your time going to her class. She doesn't elaborate on anything in class & just reads the PowerPoint slides word for word. She can never figure out how to turn the volume on when she shows the class videos & frequently tells stories about her little son who I'm o so tired of hearing about.

Ruuuuuuuuuude. Tried going to her for help on a few occasion, felt like she made an effort to make me feel stupid even though I Aced her lame course. She sucks as a prof, avoid if you can! She doesn't even come to class prepared just uses boring powerpoints and always says "uuuummmmmmmmmmm".

Terrible, terrible time. For someone who is supposedly so open to disability, marginalization, gender bias and sexual orientation, I am shocked at the demeaning and opinionated comments from this prof. She does not listen to opinions outside of her own and jumps to intimidate/mark low those who try to be more prepared than she is

I have never been so insulted in my life. Puts people down with ideas outside of her own narrow gaze. Boring Powerpoints are meant to show what? Be inventive. As a mature student who enjoys debate and solid research, what a shock! If you want to challenge ideas and refuse to suck up then this class is not for you. Do another one!

Easily the worst prof I've had. Unfair marking, boring and lashes out at differing opinions. She should not be teaching. Uses the powerpoint slides from the text, so there was absolutely no point in coming to class. Gives feminism a bad image. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS

Abraisive and her course is a lot of reading and work. Some interesting material. Do not take this class if you have a lot of other course work. Many readings and text reading is mandatory. Tests are unfair and she doesn't know how to write a layout. Expected 9 marks for a half a page.

I liked her at the beginning and enjoyed her feminist views. She tells it like is... even if the men didn't want to hear it. Important to note that i had her for Sociology. About mid way through the course I lost all interest... Staring at a powerpoint everyday gets old.
