I know this may be crazy, but Flanagan stands as one of my best professors to date. I had him in 1999 and even through my masters and doctorate his class stands out. His passion, toughness and attention to detail is what I model my own professorship in mgmt after. Hes crusty and grumpy, but I loved him.

So far, the best management professor I had taken a class from. He is really passionate about these subjects so he may come off a little aggressive, but in reality he isn't. Participate, do the work, go to class, and study. He just wants everyone to pass and understand the material. It is complex, but it is informative.

This professor is one of the best professors I've ever had. I initially was concerned after reading some feedback from other students, but I really wanted a challenge. This class was for sure a challenge! He is very intimidating up front, but if you truly want to learn management, he will literally spend hrs giving your work thoughtful feedback.

Mike lives sociology, and delivers clear expectations of what is needed to pass his class. He emphasizes learning, not just memorizing the material. His goal above all else seems to be instilling life long knowledge to each and every student. That being said, he has high expectations and you must study or you will not pass his class.

Best Business Professor at CSUB. He si concise in grading and lectures. Exams 1 & 2, and quizzes are graded same day, same class. Assignments and tests are meticulously feed back. His approach is extremely helpful preparing students for workforce at high level. He is very supportive during office hours. If you are lazy do not take his class

Spends a lot of time putting down everyone, especially "this generation," and he's a technophobe. He teaches off hand initially and the information is dubious at best (if two bell curves overlap to some degree, that means they're equal?). Grades harshly. Testing is unclear. Self-assessment paper requirements couldn't be more vague.

Great teacher, I took the class about 5 years ago and this is the class that best prepared me for my career and the information he teaches will benefit you for the rest of your life. Is it an easy class? No. Did I like this course while I was taking it? No. Would I take this class again? For my own personal growth.? Absolutely. Best teacher at CSUB

Teaches his own unique version of management eventually paralleled with the text book for the course. Very specific to details in the way questions are posed and confusing at times. Relates to his role in the professional world as an advisor with very little evidence of practical experience. Available during office hours and willing to assist.

Mike was by far the best professor I have ever had. He is brusque, and does not have the greatest social skills, but he is brilliant in his field. You will LEARN the material. If you are a slacker...you will not do well.

To the person who posted on the date of 1/20/2011, if you are a slacker and expect life to come easy, then yes he is too demanding. He is hard but he is clear on what he expects from his students. I guarantee most who don't like him, like things easy and sugar-coated. His caliber of teaching is paralleled by few. Take him if you want to learn.

I had Dr. Flanagan back in te 90's, he was more David Letterman back then.He is sharp and expts the same. He is meticulous, and he cares. He is committed to what he does. He was by far my most outstanding instructor, most demanding too, and I've had plenty. We'd be better for it if more instructors were like him. Only the slackers hate him :)

I had him for 308/309. In 308 the exams are very hard but the lectures are great and helpful information for business majors. In 309 it was a bit easier and all essays. All I have to say is if you go and talk to him, he will help you. You need to show that you have interest in doing well in his course. He is a nice guy under that tough exterior.

Great professor. Hard class/tests are extremely hard. He does teach very well and explain things throughly (he just has hard tests). He is willing to help you out of class and it strict but respectful. He is approachable and takes his job seriously. I ended up with a C+ and I normally get A's and B's. This class took a lot of studying and effort.

Professor Flanagan is probably one of the hardest professors at CSUB. He has high expecatations and he challenges students to produce the very best work. He will keep you the full length of class and he will challenge you academically. I highly recommend Professor Flanagan. He won't be an easy A, you will have to work for it.

Horrid horrid horrid. Intentionally makes the test questions hard and tricky. It is almost like he TRIES to make you fail. Avoid this teacher you will want to kill yourself while taking his nearly impossible to pass class. Seriously...HE IS HORRIBLE and everyone (about 20 people so far) I spoke with who took him says the same thing.

Professor Flanagan has probably been my best Cal State teacher that I have had so far. He has high standards and high expectations for all of his students. None of his classes will be easy. He demands excellence that is lost in today's academic world. Not for inferior student's that merely want an easy A without learning anything.

Going by the syllabus class should be easy, going by the instructions on the paper, should be easy, however, he doesn't grade the papers BASED on his own instructions he gives for it. Difficult class because his own instructions don't match how he grades.

He was definitely the worst teacher I have ever had! I did my work, attended class and still failed. It's all his way of thinking and expects everyone to think like him. In the end...he wrote on my grade sheet and said that I should reconsider if I should even stay in school. Later, I took the same class with another teacher and got an A+.

worst teacher EVER!! he got mad at a student and called him a whimp when the student asked him if the class can leave eardly becuase the classroom was FREEZING, but has NO problem what so ever keeping you late... he rambles a lot and gets out of the subject so many times... talks about himself as if he's the greatest thing that walked this planet!!

This was an excellent class! He is a tough grader on papers, but that's a good thing! Really makes you think about and analyze the material. Always prepared for class and organized. I learned a lot from this class and unlike most of my other professors, Flanagan holds students to high standards.
