HE DOESN'T SHOW UP TO HIS OWN SCHEDULED OFFICE HOURS!! He wrote comments on my essay but they were completely illegible so I went to his office hours and he wasn't there. Me and several other students completely wasted our time trying to get feedback BECAUSE HE CAN'T WRITE CLEARLY. His directions for the essays and midterm were also highly vague

He claims it is a discussion class but it is a lecture. Moreover, it is a HORRIBLE lecture where he makes obscure outlines. 5/30 students talk every class and its the same1s

Great Professor, assigned reasonable work. Sends links to weekly readings (all articles, takes maybe ten minutes.) He's willing to work with you before or after class. Very reasonable and the lectures were interesting. Honestly one of my favorite classes this semester. Would take again. Attendance is required to pass.

Nice guy, easy going class, 2 papers exams. Gives you freedom - no ruberics, no explanations of grades, no guidelines. Few assignments. Ruberics would have been nice. Most got good grades anyway. More structure would have been nice to know what is expected, and what to take away. Good reading, confusing lectures discussions. -English Major

Easily the worst class I've taken (about to graduate). Class is 2 papers and 2 exams where you match quotes with the author and explain them then write essays. Whole class structure revolves around scrawl you cannot decipher. He is unsure about even his own material at times. DONT TAKS

As a person he's incredibly intellectual and easy-going. As a professor he was enthusiastic about the material, but it didn't translate to a very coherent class. The readings were dense and it felt more like a political science debate than an English course. I left the room feeling confused more often than not.

Sign up for a different English professor. I don't care if you think a chairman can do the job well, just PLEASE sign up for someone else. I cannot understand this guy, especially when he has arrows and unclear diagrams drawn all over the board. Uses supposedly "important" quotes from the readings, but puts almost the entire class to sleep.

i don't understand how anyone could have a problem with this professor. the class was very challenging but if you go to class, do the readings and talk to him about the papers you will be ok. he is open minded and respectful and easy going despite the difficulty of the class. i suggest the class if you are going to TRY.

One of the hardest classes I've taken, but very helpful. Literary theory is now a requisite for the English curriculum, so you'd learn alot in Dr. Hill's class. But be prepared for some one-sidedness on his part. He's against the literary canon and humanism and imperialists. Don't expect to learn anything about what he's against.

Takes himself and his precious "canon" a little too seriously. Also I get the distinct impression that he doesn't read any papers you hand in to him...he has an idea of what grade you're getting in the beginning and thats what you're going to get. That said, if you participate and do the work an easy, if boring, class.
