Masha is my advisor, my mentor, and one of the biggest sources of inspiration in my entire life and musical career. She is kind, funny, brilliant, and caring. She's giving of her time and is committed to the success of the students who care enough to take advantage of her ample resources. I love her unconditionally.

Comment:

Prof. Whaples is awful! Especially in Music History. Jr. writing isn't so bad. However, Whaples old age is definitely showing. You'll hand in a paper at the beginning of class and she'll hand it back at the end thinking she forgot to give it to you at the start of class. Music history is HARD though and not helpful

I got a B in the class and did not learn a thing except that the word medium existed. The class was a waste of students time. The time for this class is better used practicing. I wish the administration would get a teacher who can effectively teach this course and not spend (no joke) half the class each day talking about logistics.

Extremely unclear and unhelpful. Falls asleep during class. Suffers from severe flatulence. This sounds like a joke, but she actually passes out and farts during class, particularly while students are taking exams. She has been at UMass since, oh, about 1934.

too smart to handle sometimes. if you go to class, pay attention, and actually do the work (take notes, study them, listen a lot) the classes are fine (if a little boring) and you learn a lot. the tests ARE related to lectures and the book. she demands diligence.

Extremely informed. If there was a music history Jeopardy!, she would definately win. However, she tests on things she told the class of '73 and doesnt understand when everyone gets it wrong. Tests are very difficult and lectures are boring. But, gotta respect her

Dr. Whaples is a brilliant woman. I think she is an amazing and inspiring person to know. I think sometimes she forgets that most people don't know as much as she does, which can cause a bit of confusion. But I think she is a wonderful and caring teacher who loves her profession and her students. I have tremendous respect for her.
