Comment:
Not a difficult class, if all you care about is an easy class to pass he is a good choice. But it is likely you will resent the man. He regularly embarrasses students who ask legitimate questions, while actively encouraging questions. He's a grouchy man, but can be funny. His exams have few questions on them, so even good students can get unlucky.

Get ready to listen to this professor rant about pretty much anything except computer science. He has talked about anything from potatoes to recycling. He gets off topic very easily. He will make you feel bad for asking questions: "You asking me that tells me that you didn't read the book! You should already know that". Overall easy class though.

Nice old man. He has lot of analogies to explain OS concepts. Gives Homework but doesn't check. Leaves that upto you to do it. No projects. Simple and clear grading criteria. 50% from Midterm & 50% from Finals. Generous in Grading. Sometimes goes off topic with his discussions but it's fine. Best prof to study OS in my opinion. Easy to get B+ or A.

I see that Kwestel gets a bad rap and I completely understand that. He tends to go off on rants every now and then and a majority of class could easily be a very long analogy for a process. Simply go to class bring a laptop do some work and if he is teaching listen if he is talking about something else do other work. Besides that he's tolerable.

He's a cute old man to be honest that uses analogies. Deff has a hint of sexism and loves the point out the two girls in the class. Only 6 homework assignments that are similar to the class examples, but always have a slight trick to them. The exams are on terms from the book that if you would only know if you read the book, not from class.

Don't take the class with Kwestel unless it's your last resort. If you want to pass you will need to read every page of the textbook and not get a single thing wrong on his homeworks or exams. Be prepared to listen to endless rants about random things not related to the class. This is coming from someone with a 4.0 GPA.

I took this class as an elective, the class is pretty straight forward he gives you 6 homeworks which are the same questions that are on the exams. If you don't go to class it is difficult to get by. No class project just a Midterm/Final/Homeworks.

The class was very outdated in the material covered. never covered multi core systems or distributed systems. The class was just homework with tests that we hw questions with diffrent numbers. He was very slow if he did respond he rathered the class help each other

He'd often talk about his life experiences, but come on this is a guy who has seen the 2nd computer in the United States in the 50's! I'd love to keep listening! Also, he gives homework that's rather straight forward and the exams are directly based on them. Simple enough class. Only advice? Be in touch with fellow students in the course.

I'm taking this class online. The guy is just slacking every step of the way. Homeworks are copy/paste from some other sources. I guess he's trying to modify a couple of values after pasting, which makes some of the problems unsolvable. Answering questions 2-3 days later well after deadline. Helpfulness 0. Avoid.

Find another professor for this course. This professor is not helpful to his students. He spends half of his lectures talking about things that are irrelevant to the course. When he does explain the subject matter, it is often not clear and confusing. There are easier and more effective ways to learn about operating systems than his course.

He is the best professor for Operating System if you want an 'A' grade. Focus on Homeworks and topics he take in class as those comprises of mid-term and final topics. If you are good in taking class notes than you wont need the book.

He's not a very good professor. His lectures are basic, but he does have a tendency to rant about current technology. Do not bother asking him questions during lectures, he will not directly answer your question. If you have previous programming experience this class is an easy B to A. If not I would advise you stay away.

This professor is not HELPFUL at all. Very little interaction with the student and pre-recorded lecture are confusing with little explanation. This professor do not see STUDENTS as STUDENTS level. His expectation is high, but luck on communication and helpfulness.

In the beginning, it was tough because he was absent frequently, but if you go to his office hours, it would be beneficial. Lectures are okay, he's willing to help students do well, not just pass with a "C". He gets off topic sometimes, but is inspirational when going off topic. Pay attention to the HW, and read the book.

If you do the readings you should be able to figure out the homework. The homework is straight out of the booklectures and all the tools needed to solve it are there, but you may have to think a bit. Tests are almost identical to the homework assignments, therefore if you do the homework and understand it the exams are easy.

Took him in Summer no attendance required but if you miss the class you are missing alot. Two exams midterm 40% and final 60%. Homework was assigned just for practice. Midterms and finals consist of 5 MCQ worth 20 points and open ended worth 80. Do his homework and you will pass the exams. Easy class and easy professor.

Too many random rants and not enough coverage on material. My first hwquizzes were massacred because I got a 2 or 3 answers incorrect. I think a compiled list of youtube videos teaching this material is more effective then this professor.

This was an online class, but I went to the first lecture in person. Kwestel talked more about his personal experiences than the material. He talked about how he doesn't own a cell phone and how new tech is bad. The pre-recorded lectures in the online class are 12 years old - severely out of date. He's completely unresponsive to student questions.
