Dr. Das is truly a great prof! He genuinely cares for his students and is passionate about what he teaches! Lectures can be quite dry and long but he includes personal aspects to make it less boring :) highly recommend!!! This is a tough class so be prepared to work for it!

He made lectures so interesting, even though they were, for me, about the most boring topics. He's passionate about the material and really wants his students to do well. He goes off on tangents a lot, but they're relevant, make the material stick better, and make the class more interesting. He does pick on ppl in class though (asks questions).

He's very passionate about what he teaches, offers side stories and lots of examples. Made bio tolerable. His notes are straight to the point and there are no surprises on his tests. This is a hard course, but he did what he could to ease the amount of memorization required.

Friendly enough professor but the class is probably the hardest I've taken so far when it comes to memorization. Almost impossible to memorize all the little details he wants you to know for the tests.

The blanks in his notes sometimes make class hard to follow. Along with there being blanks in his notes he includes maybe 60% of the topics you need to know easily visible in the notes. If you plan on taking his class get ready to remember even the smallest details for the exams.

Mrinal was a good prof. He has tons of interesting stories, along with some pointless ones, but it made class fun. I found him to be super interested in what he was teaching. He knows his stuff. But the one downfall i found was his notes do not explain enough of what he wants you to know and he tests on some things you would't expect to be on it.

He is always there to help you when you need it and his notes are very clear. He makes his lectures interesting and always gets the class involved. The midterm and final were tough but if you read his notes and the textbook you will be fine.

Unfortunately, he does not post up the notes ahead of time because he expects you to be in class. He's a fast powerpoint slide skipper, thus making it difficult to write all the notes down. Exams aren't difficult as long as you study the notes in detail (which are posted up a week before the exams).

Reading some of these reviews, it's hard to believe we're talking about the same person. Mrinal is one of the best profs in the bio department. He loves his field and he portrays it through engaging lectures. Slides are clear and easy to understand. If you have questions, see him in his office and he will do everything he can to help you succeed.

His teaching technique was not for me. He purposely leaves blank slides and moves way too quickly to take notes on the slides in class as well as what he says. Best way to pass his class is to print out EVERY powerpoint and then fill in highlight and jot down the information he says aloud. However, this does not work for everyone so choose wisely

Dr. Das is the usual for a Biology prof. If you're a first year student you can take his class and you'll do fine as long as you read the textbook and study. It seems like a lot of readings but you have all term so do one a night or something. His lectures are kinda long, slides are kinda confusing, but midterm & final are mainly textbook based.

Lectures were very long and dry- difficult to attend and stay focused. He tested from both the textbook (he assigns lots of readings!) and his notes. Exams were tough - memorization of every detail was expected. His notes were not the greatest - poorly organized. I learned more from reading the textbook than from attending his lectures.

Not only was the lecture really dry, the exams killed. If you don't study for a week leading up to the exam, don't expect to do good. He tried to make the class more interesting by bringing in fossils, just didn't work.

The reason why his exams are so hard is to prepare the Environmental Sciences students for their higher level courses. Suck it up for the rest of your fellow classmates and realize they benefit from having a teacher who puts the effort in for their students. If you expect to just read online notes and pass exams easily, you're a bum.

Good prof. He's very intelligent and his accent makes the class interesting because you have to pay attention a little more to understand what he's saying. His notes are well formatted, clear to understand, and not pointless like a lot of profs. Only complaint is that his final exam was pretty hard because he expected more info than the lab!!

Dr. Mrinal Das was a wonderful professor. He is very enthusiastic and funny! He knows his stuff and made it easy to understand. What he taught in the class is what was on the tests. Reading the text is helpful too. He puts spaces in the notes on blackboard so people attend class, which is good. Overall I found his class very enjoyable.

He seems like a nice guy but he doesn't really act like he cares about his students at all. His lectures aren't mind numbingly boring but beware that the notes he posts on Black Board have intentional blanks to trip up coasters. He gives no review for the tests and the class moves so fast that it's really hard to take notes.

Mrinal Das is the most negative professor I have ever had. It is getting to a point where it's hard to attend the lectures because he is so pessimistic about the state of the world. He's very passionate about biology but the quizzes don't correspond with the notes and we have no idea what he'll test us on.

I also agree that a lot of these reviews are unfair. You can really tell that Mrinal loves Biology.. it comes through in his lectures. His lectures are very interesting and he really knows what he's talking about, instead of just reading a powerpoint like most profs. My only negative: he's unclear on what is going to be on exams or what to
