I took his class thinking it would be enjoyable but it was one of the worst classes I've taken in my three years at the U of W. He picks obvious favorites so if you don't speak up in the first couple of classes don't expect an A+.

His knowledge of the subject matter is beyond reproach, but Evans is an abysmal marker. I achieved A's and A-'s in all four of my other classes this term, with recommendations that I seek publication for some of my essays. With Evans, however, I had to fight him on every grade. I do not recommend taking his class.

Really horrible prof! Would give very clear instructions as to how to well on a paper and then mark completely opposite to his prior instructions. Very frustrating class to take! Can't seem to win in this course!!

Awful professor. Very unclear in his expectations and does not follow through. Says papers with a thesis usually get B's but this guy is all over the place. Loved my thesis but gave me a C? Does not stick to his own expectations. Holds grudges and is rude in comments. AVOID IF POSSIBLE. I never do these but he drove me to it.

He is very quirky and you will likely either love or hate him.He cares for his students and wants to help,if asked.He expects effort and good work and leaves detailed comments for revisions on assignments,even though his marking is tough.He is good at explaining concepts and ideas in a variety of ways.It's not easy to breeze by in his class though.

Different prof, depends on your personality whether or not you will clash/admire him. I found him very funny and insightful however he pushes you! If your not willing to do the work and step out of your comfort box then don't bother. You have to be dedicated to succeed. If your lazy it will be reflected in your marks.

Worst prof I have ever had. Zero information content in lectures. Bizarre and vague assignments. Very snarky if your assignment is late (by days), but hands it back weeks after he said he would. I can honestly say that after a whole year, I learned NOTHING in his class. Unfortunately, it's a requirement. Made me hate a subject I usually love.

He thinks he's a fair professor, but he is the most rigid, "stuck in his ways" person I have ever met. Extremely difficult marker, very unclear, you will spend all of your time worrying about his class and trying to prepare for his vague expectations of you. READ YOUR COURSE OUTLINES, TAKE DOWN ALL IMPORTANT INFORMATION. He is not a clear person.

One of the worst profs I've encountered. Unclear, out of focus, drifts off topic, never comes prepared. Subjective marker, intimidated by students. Plays favourites (sucking up is MANDATORY to do well). See him in his office A LOT-he likes students who express interest. If you really want to learn a topic, avoid him. He's terribly unclear.

Look at his final marks list on his office door. Each semester, he fails at least one person. This person is usually a person who refuses to suck up - like me. If you want a fun, yet educational course, skip evans. He fails to offer either in his classes.

Dr. Evans is absolutely my favourite professor. He definitely expects a LOT from you so don't expect his courses to be easy. But in the end it's worth it because, if you put in the effort, your thinking and writing skills will improve immensely. He also talks a lot during office hours...so if you need to see him get there early.

Absolute jerk. Told me he'd make it his point to stop me from succesfully appealing the mark he gave me. I spent the whole sem. in his office asking for advice on upcoming assignments, and he didn't bother to aknowledge my interest in holding a good mark. Clearly too old to teach, or needs to learn to pay attention to his students and their needs.

I tend to coast in Eng...you cannot do that here. 1st I hated him, but by the end of the year, I loved him. He made me work harder than any professor ever did,not to be cruel, but because he is extremely diligent and expects the same of his students. Very funny if you like geek humour. Worth the pain! good practice for life & for grad school!
