He was the hardest professor I have ever had. He grades so hard with little to no helpful feedback. He makes the students feel dumb. There is way too much reading. I had to buy 12 books for one semester. He doesn't go into depth about the subjects and expects the students to always know what is going on.

Don't Choose this Professor if you are not interested in Reading. Every week he tells of reading a chapter from the Business Ethics books which for me are the worlds most heavy and boring tasks ever. He is very Good In Nature. But Grading sucks. Not good for lazy asses like me. but if you are having a lot of interest in reading then go for it.

Humanities Tutorial teacher who is very quirky and weird. The philosophy concepts are a bit hard to understand but he does well explaining them, and writing papers for his class requires more than comprehending --he wants independent and original thought in the papers. Just read the books and spend a lot of time writing and editing and you'll be ok

One of my favorite professors at CLU! He talks at the perfect pace to keep up taking notes, which I appreciate greatly. And he has an Australian accent.

I wasn't completely sold on Dr. Tierney when I first met him, but since I've grown to like him. He is knowledgeable, challenging, & isn’t afraid to tell you that you’re wrong. Some of his comments may seem opinionated & arrogant, but he is often not too far from the truth. He is also kind of sassy! I look forward to his class every day!

Tierney is so much fun to watch lecture. He gets very into what he is teaching and is very passionate about the material. Do your work, do the readings prior to class, pay attention, engage in the discussions, and you will do fine.

Hum Tut was one of the best things that happened to me at CLU, and Dr. Tierney was wonderful. Classes were engaging. It's easy to get an A from him as long as your writing is actually good and you participate in the discussions. Some people have horror stories about Hum Tut, but that's only because they didn't read the books or think deeply.

My favorite professor I have ever had period, and I say this as someone with little previous interest in philosophy who found the class difficult. He's very charming and his lectures are enjoyable. He expects quality work, but there is no reason for anyone not to get an A in the class. He's approachable and will spend a lot of time with you outside

Excellent professor, one of the best at CLU. I would not be disappointed to find him teaching at an Ivy League. You have to think to pass his class, but he's very encouraging and helpful. Reading assignments are short and thoroughly discussed in class. A++++ for this class.

Excellent philosophy professor. Very knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful to serious students. If you want to learn something and grow as a student, take his class. If you're looking for an easy A, take someone else's class. His religious views do NOT overshadow his ability to think philosophically or to accurately judge others' thinking.

Tough class, with lots of reading. Tierney was not very clear on what he wanted for the papers, and was not very helpful on clarifying. He also expected a lot from us even though most of us were not philosophy majors. Talk to the other teacher (Dr. Streeter) if you can since he's nicer, clearer, and more helpful.

Humtut is all about writing papers and class participation, just look like you have a pulse and RE-WRITE YOUR PAPERS. he'll help you find a topic, give you leads for research, and even might tip you off on what to study for the midterm/final. write a paper on imagination. it got me an a. think outside of the box, its philosophy . . not h.s english.

Tierney is one of those teachers where if you put a full effort into the class you will get a lot out of it. He will get you to think out of the box, and that is one of the best gifts any teacher at CLU has given me. If you think he wants you to think just like him, you are probably still thinking like the robots out in this world chasing after a buck.

I took his metaphysics class. It's really hard, but he tells you that on the first day. It's just a hard subject no matter who teaches it, but he tries to make it as understandable as possible. ~5 homework, 2 pages each (30% of grade), mid-term and final paper, 6-8 pages (25% each), and class participation (20%).

Tierney has been my favorite professor at Cal Lu. His classes have helped me grow the most personally out of all the courses I have taken. Many don't like him because he forces students to actually THINK. He's great for anyone who truly wants to learn and work for the A.
