His Logic class was one of the few classes I took that actually has helped me in the Real World. It has taught me to argue effectively and see many sides to an argument, and eventually reach the truth as I see it. A brilliant man.

Dr. Garvin was one of the best professors ever made. He made a class I HAD to take into a class I loved. I truly wish there were more profs like him in the world. Terrible loss for Albion and the teaching community.

Ned was a true gem. One of a kind. They don't make men like Ned anymore. I can still hear Ned making his wisecracks whenever I watch a bad movie. Fourth of July also reminds me of Ned - he used to make homemade bombs and set them off for all of the kids. I wish you guys could have seen him with my son (his grandson) - amazing.

Prof. Garvin (I could never get used to calling him Ned) loved philosophy, but he loved his students more. Ned had a profound impact on many of us. In many ways he is with us every day, in every challenge we face, remind us to think clearly, honestly and with relentless precision. Nearly thirty years later, I think of him often.

I had Dr. Garvin during the summer session of 1975. Summer school is rather less formal than regular fall or spring sessions -- we had two classes downtown in a bar! Ned was funny, brilliant and a great teacher -- one of the best.
