I'm a premed student so I wanted an easy English class. This was pretty much that. Not a lot of assignments, and short readings. He's kind of a funny guy. He's very nice but maybe a bit odd. Grade was based basically on one final paper (6-8 pages).. I think. Was never really told how we'd be graded. Go to class, talk, write a good paper.

He is such a great teacher! So sweet and kind and you can tell he just loves his job! I thought the class would be really boring, as early american literature was never my thing, but I was highly surprised! He explains the books in a way which makes them interesting and is really passionate about teaching. Take his class!! You'll love him!

By far my favorite teacher at UB! I am taking his class next semester too. He is such a sweet guy and at first I dreaded taking American literature because Ive always found those authors to be so dry and boring, but after listening to him explain the books, I just love the class! He's so intelligent and its a really easy class. Very light workload

This class is little more than an open forum for the University's population of self-indulged hipsters. If you can tolerate these miasmites, the class requires little effort.

One of the nicest men you'll find in academia, but don't expect to get much more than an easy grade from his class. He stands at the board every class and rambles about whatever comes to mind. He goes at a slow pace; it took about two weeks to chew through the Gettysburg Address. Minimal work: an easy midterm; 6 page paper; a short writing piece.

In the first few weeks I was thrilled because it was shaping up to be the best English course I've taken at UB. Since then it has gone downhill. He is a very nice man and clearly well educated. I'm sure it is a matter of taste. However, it became painfully boring as each day, the entire class was one long tangent away from the material.

What a great professor! I took Faulkner with him, and it is clear that he loves the literature that he is teaching. His class is structured very loosely, and it worked very well for the topic. Great feedback, interesting discussions, and very open to student opinions. Always open to other readings, and overall just a very nice interesting guy.

Great Professor and easy class. I can see where some people would be frustrated with the loose structure of class. I didn't mind it only 2 papers and attendance are graded. No exams are given. Would recommend if you are looking for an easy A.

This man is the single worst Prof that I have ever had in all the years of my schooling. Wastes class time on trivialities, did not plan course assignments at all, and was not open to other interpretations of literature. If your looking for a blow off class, you have come to the right place. But, if you are like me, you will be sorely disappointed.

Lecture format, but the man sure knows how to keep an audience captivated. A kind soul and a brilliant mind make him the best prof I had at UB.

Easygoing, very cool, no exams, 2 papers, some emails. He connects memoir with film, sonnets, & culture. It̢۪s great to just sit & soak in the lecture, which usually quickly becomes a discussion. Each required text is worth reading (but not necessarily worth buying, borrow 'em from the library first) & expands perception of the genre of memoir.

This professor does not teach. He rambles about whatever he wants - nothing that relates to English or the literature. Reading the books isn't even necessary because we barely talked about them. Don't waste your time. Get a teacher who will be worth your money!

Instructor is open to almost any viewpoint and uses a good mix of lecture and classroom discussion. Materials included novels, films, and cartoons (both print and video). No exams, 2 papers and some e-mail interaction. It is a very enjoyable class.

Fun class! Tends to ramble a bit, but somehow manages to tie his musings to the topic. Shows real concern for students and never makes them feel that their interpretations are totally wrong.
