Comment:

This was one of the hardest profs/classes I have ever taken. I had to work very hard for my grade, but looking back, I am very happy I had Ms Young. You need to put the time and effort in. If you do, you will do well. If you want an easy grade, take it with a different prof. If you want to be prepared for life, and for the CPA exam, choose Ms Young

In contrast to other sections of this course and the previous course ACCT3351 get ready to go from manageable to nose to the grindstone 7 days a week. Very picky grader. That being said; If you have no job, no life, and ample time to go to her office everyday youll do fine.

Pre-Cursor: Previous GPA going into the course 4.2 . Enjoy doing a hand in with multiple problems for every single class, in addition to online Wiley quizzes. Her teaching isn't teaching. She assigns homework on topics not yet covered, and then corrects the questions. That is all, then moves on. Also, the text and her teachings don't always align

Professor Young, although highly knowledgeable in the subject matter, is the most unforgiving relentless, and toughest professor in the entire school. If you wish to maintain your GPA you may want to look into taking classes with another Professor

She relies mostly on you having read the textbook. Other than that, she just goes through a couple examples in class. I had to take an 8:30 a.m. class and with her teaching style, it was brutal. I would not take another course taught by her.

Definitely the best Accounting Prof at SMU. If you are serious aout Accounting as a career, you cannot be complaining about the amount of work. If you dont do the work now at uni, when do you want to do it? Nikki deserves Professor of year award, year after year that she continues to teach.

Nicola Young may be very tough but she is one of the best, if not THE best accounting prof at SMU. She is always open to questions even though she may not directly answer them. What she does do is point you in the direction for you to actually answer your question yourself and as result enhance your learning. Lots of work required but so worth it!!

she is one of the most knowledgable profs ive learned from I love her teaching style. I failed the first midterm, but worked my ass ended with a C+ and im so happy. The material is already hard. If you can do good in youngs class, your golden in the future. she preps you for work. you show nicola you care, she would look at your overall grade.

Regardless of my final mark, she is a amazing professor, I have emailed her numerous times throughout the semester about things, and she emailed me back within a hour or two. The course is tough, but if you show her that you can progress throughout the semester you should be able to get a C minimum! Best accounting prof at smu hands down!

The simple solution is to take this course from any other professor teaching it (Charley Baxter is recommended!). Being a coauthor of the required textbook seems to affect the ego and thus teaching quality of professors, Nicola Young is no exception. The course is actual enjoyable with other professors (not so much with her).

She teaches under the unrealistic assumption that we've read the chapter, studied for the online quiz, and then done several practice problems. As such, she doesn't actually "explain" anything, and more or less goes over problems assigned the previous class. It's definitely a poor teaching style so prepare to teach yourself a lot of the material.

Consider this my PSA for all first and second year students considering majoring in accounting at SMU - transfer now while you still can! Between Dougherty, Young, Ansong, and Song your GPA will be destroyed as well as any hope of getting into graduate school (a strong GPA isn't the only requirement, but it helps A LOT) Like I said, get out now!

Really nice and helpful prof. The course is extremely hard and requires you to know the material inside and out. Take it with her if you want to pursue a CA, take it with Kozloski if you want an easy A. You literally need to know 90% of the book to get an A+, but it will give you a huge advantage for the future.

You would think that people would get better at what they do over time. She is teaching even before I was born but, I must say she is one of the worst, if not the worst prof I have ever seen. I am not a dumbo and neither have any issue with her exams or anything. But I think she should retire because she can not teach.

Nikki is good if you are a self learner. In her class you will have to learn everything by yourself. Her exams are not bad. The only thing, that "SHE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER AND SHE CAN NOT TEACH. SHE THINKS SHE IS EXPLAINING BUT SHE IS NOT". Other than that she is fine.
