I took existentialism solely because it was a gen ed for critical thinking through writing. As a freshman, I thought this course was pretty difficult, but it was mainly just the material that was hard to comprehend. Overall, I thought she was a good prof with a skill of making you feel like what you say makes sense even when you have no clue what..

Okay, so I went into this intro class not knowing anything about philosophy. I could not understand the readings unless I sat and googled the definitions of every other word. She seems kind and smart, but does not know how to relay the information in an easy to comprehend way. Her grading is also confusing.

Discussions were good, but philosophy is a hard subject to teach well enough to assign exams. The exams were nit-picky and had relatively few questions. One group project was assigned. Besides exam grades, you will probably never see a rubric for any presentation and does not keep updated grades in gradebook. No idea what grade is until the end.

Knows material well, but has no idea in how to portray that to students. Does not clarify what difficult texts told us, basically had to teach myself. Tests are difficult, worded poorly and are on miniscule details. Class is a drowned lecture. Very difficult for a 100 class. Do NOT take if you do not have to, you will regret it.

I'm sure she's smart but Vahanian had no idea how to get her points across to the class. Her accent also sometimes got in the way of trying to explain something that was already dificult to comprehend. Wouldnt recommend her

She clearly knew what she was talking about, but often had issues getting that across. Generally, will spend extra time if youre confused. Lots of required reading, but the tests weren't bad if you paid attention in class.

Wasn't looking forward to the class, but she kept my interest throughout the semester and made me appreciate philosophy more. Lots of work for an intro class, but definitely doable.

Its not that she doesn't know what shes talking about, I mean have you seen her personal page? ridiculous amount of education. I think philosophy is just one of those subjects thats hard to explain to someone who is just starting out. Shes just trying to explain in a way thats not going to mislead or confuse us more. which is very difficult.

Very hard course, and she's not really clear. Doesn't often know what she's talking about, either. Nice lady, just a really hard subject to teach I guess.

Dr. Vahanian was an excellent teacher; however, philosphy is not a particularily easy subject! Nevertheless, I did what was required of me.

She definitely knows her subject well, but has problems communicating that knowledge with the class. Despite that, she was a fairly lenient grader, and her tests and quizzes were not too bad if you paid attention to the reviews she gave.

I did the readings. I took notes. I am fairly smart. This was a tough class. I thought it would be very basic and introductory...it wasn't. What others have said, is true. She didn't know how to reiterate herself and what she was saying. If we didn't comprehend the information she had now way to make it comprehendable. And when I asked her for additional help I was basically given the days lecture again. She was of no help.

She seems to know the material very well, but her inability to communicate with the class will leave you confused even if you just go over the reading, which you may have completely understood the night before. She uses unnecessarily big words and makes even basic concepts hard to understand.

She's so hard to understand, becuase of her accent and she doesn't know different ways to explain things. But people jump all over her and are so mean to her in class. Honestly if you give her a chance and take notes, the tests are not hard. She's very leanient in grading becuase it's opinion Q's

Sadly, I thought this class was going to be easy after reading previous ratings. I was very wrong. This class only being a 100 level class was very hard. Her tests are hard and her quizzes are longer and more complex than her tests. Save yourself and take another class besides this one.
