Comment:

His lectures are essentially useless he spends whole classes talking about his books and previous research. His quizzes are multiple choice and fairly difficult. His marking isn't horrendous but his instructions are very unclear so it can be a hit or miss. I definitely do not recommend him and will be avoiding any future class with him.

After a few weeks of listening to rambling lectures that had nothing to do with the overall theme of the course, I went less and less. His grading scheme is fine and he'll let you re-do work if you don't get an acceptable grade. Our class was often confused about where and what we were supposed to be studying or working on for the class.

One of the worst prof's at the school. All he ever does is go on about his own life, much of which is not relevant to the class. Over all, a horrible teacher

For an entire month he talked about was how he did "hands-on" research with his wife's family in Newfoundland on poaching. We actually took an entire class just to watch his home video ("research"), of him filming abandoned fishing communities from a boat. Absolutely useless & unclear with assignments. And countless "I'm Japanese-Canadian" lectures

Okihiro is now one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Midterm was multiple choice and fairly difficult, final exam was MC and short answer (you get the questions ahead of time). Okihiro is one of my fav profs! He is very enthusiastic about his classes and very knowledgeable! He is also really funny. The only problem is his multiple choice questions are really hard/ confusing but most of them are out of the book.

A lot of students do not like him but I always liked him. He lets you decide what everything is worth in his higher level classes (3000+) and he lectures okay. You can miss classes and still do well if you study for the exams and write a good final paper. Multiple choice exams are HARD!!! Otherwise, nice guy!

Well, what can I say, I know more about his wife, son and the 2 books he wrote and nothing about criminology. I heard in his research methods class he is awesome, but from my experience he was very unclear, and I never knew where he was at in the class lectures. I did not like his teaching approach what-so-ever!

WOW...Okihiro's classes are usually boring, with the odd interesting one. He definitely knows what he's talking about but gets really off topic. HE LOVES NEWFOUNDLAND (and kind of reminds me of Barnett Richling, which is not really a good thing). Oki's multiple choice are brutal...and he's kind of scary.

Dr. Okihiro is one of the best professors I've ever had at this school. His lectures are excellent and informative. He's funny and makes the class more fun. His assignments are interesting. I looed forward to doing them. He is a little bit on the hard side as a marker but he recognizes effort. I want him again next year!

Awful class. No text, just photocopied articles. The class topics are so random, its sad. The lectures are off topic and boring boring boring. Prof gets off topic and rambles about his life and wife more often that not. Course expectations are not well defined however marking is quite decent. Not recommended

I had this prof a couple of yrs. ago and he was great. I learned a lot in his class and I found him organized. VERY unclear with respect to what he wants in assignments...and when you ask him he won't tell you! He doesn't teach...the course book is awful and he suceeds in wasting a lot time by making us redo assignments because the class avg is a 4/10...obviously b/c of him - not us...HATE this class!!!!!!
